Anything MRJ writes, I'm there. Excited for this one! And I hear we'll get his next musical, TEETH (for which he wrote just book & lyrics) next year at Playwrights Horizons.

I'm so glad that Loop has opened the floodgates for him! Has he been working on these concurrently with Loop?
Remaining tickets online are $100+ for the first preview - I just got two tickets for $94 (that’s including the service fees). Thanks for sharing, quizking101!

Has this completely sold out??? I'm trying to click on performances (that aren't listed as sold out) and no matter what option I click (i.e. used to be $79, used to be $125, used to be $59) it says "you've requested 2 tickets, but 0 are available). And yet the performances aren't listed as sold out... is this a glitch or are all the seats gone?

I had this issue yesterday afternoon, as well, but then it finally allowed me to buy tickets at night, so I am guessing it was a glitch. Might be worth trying again!
It’s curious to me why this isn’t selling better? Seems like the follow up to a Pulitzer/Tony winning musical would have a lot more fanfare surrounding it. I got my ticket early expecting it to blow up. Maybe it’s just early?

A Strange Loop had many periods of weak sales so I'm not sure we should expect this to be too different.

I think Michael R. Jackson still feels fairly new onto the scene so it remains to be seen whether his followup project would be as good as A Strange Loop (and even though that got critical praise across the board, I think audiences were a little more divided about it). Add to that, the title is somewhat provocative and people might be waiting to see if it's something they'd like or too "woke"/avant-garde

Plus, how many off-Broadway shows are usually knock-out hits? If anything, this production feels like an opportunity for those of us who loved A STRANGE LOOP and came into the fold when it came to Broadway to experience a Pulitzer Prize winner's next possibly great work in it's infancy.
Next to Normal, Hamilton, Kimberly Akimbo... I mean there are a ton of off-Broadway shows that are 'outright hits."

I think usually is a key qualifier in relation to other postings expressing surprise that this show hasn't sold out quickly. Yes, some off-Broadway shows have become major hits, but I don't think we would say that is the usual norm.

Well most of them are at non profits right? So hard to say what is considered a hit but the theaters are so small, I’d imagine most shows pack them in.
I think people expecting this to be some crazy hit aren’t realizing that A Strange Loop - opinions aside - wasn’t a hit and closed at a loss, so to expect his next musical to be some hot ticket wouldn’t make sense. I’ll be curious to hear the reviews though. Love the title but I could see how it would probably deter a lot of theater goers who maybe don’t want to see something like that.

ok, feeling crazy. Got tix a while ago for what I thought was the first preview (tues, march 14th) but I’m seeing everything is now saying that the 15th is the first preview? Was it pushed a day?

Yes. I had tickets for the 14th that were cancelled a month and a half back randomly for that reason. Got a ticket for the next week.

I'd call the box office to make sure you got the OG ticket refunded then!
A little puzzled myself - I checked my order and tickets are for the 15th and not the 14th (as purchased) so hopefully they switched tickets for you too seussical93? I also had no communication or anything.

welp, looks like they didn’t switch ‘em and the first preview is sold out/ they won’t accommodate me for the first few shows since I got 30 under 30 tix. Just sucks since I bought them so early/ wasn’t notified. Aw well, first world problems, life goes on lol. Can’t wait to read about you lucky first previewers!
How long has this show been workshopped? Is this a finished show or is this being rushed instead of being workshopped for a few years?

I saw a workshop of this in '21 as part of ny stage and film - it was the complete book and music, but staged concert-like so no blocking or set yet. and i'm quite certain this wasn't the first workshop - there's videos on youtube of the songs sung since 2017

It had a workshop just last year at New York Stage and Film.
