Michael R. Jackson's new musical 'White Girl in Danger' to premiere Off-Broadway in March 2023 — Page 3

As I have heard, the first few previews may be longer, but will also feature material that may end up getting the cut shortly thereafter - so as someone associated with the show told me, “the first few previews are going to be really crazy and unique experiences and you should definitely go”

Can confirm it's a two act and not like A Strange Loop (1 hr 50 minutes with no intermission)

Has anyone seen a discount code for this yet or at all?

Goldstar had $40 tickets at one point

I would highly suggest people wait to go til after opening, I have heard the rehearsal process has been somewhat messy

I mean…mounting a brand new show that has never been seen in its entirety by the public before never was 100% without some mess in the rehearsal process.

Just on the surface after reading the general premise of the show, it comes across as a rather heavy-handed satire. The town is called "Allwhite". How much creativity did that take? I would have wished for at least a bit of nuance, and not being hit on the head with what we already know from the title. I do hope my initial impressions are wrong because the concept has a lot of potential.

Nuance and subtlety are not the same thing. Most of Spike Lee's movies, for instance, are incredibly confrontational in terms of what they're about but still find ways of exploring different ways in terms of how they can be about it.

Point taken, there's a difference in style and presentation - definitely not subtle. I will go back to my knitting and porridge.

messy how?

If anything, that’s more reason to see it during previews.

Does anyone know how the TodayTix rush works?
Is it random chance or the first x number of people to buy tickets or what?

Theoretically the latter, but in practice the former. You just get on there right before 10 AM (or whenever it's released) and it counts down the seconds. Then it opens up and you click as fast as you can. But even if you do it at light speed, it's near-impossible for the most in-demand shows.
All that said, I bet you'll be able to get into this one.

I'm going to the first preview on the 15th so I shall report back with a detailed review. I had the pleasure to seeing A Strange Loop several years ago while incubating at MTF. Whatever he does, or whatever shape the show is in during previews and it's entire run, we can all be sure that it WILL be exciting and thoughtful.

Is the show tonight a friends/family preview or open to the public? TodayTix doesn’t show the rush operating today.

It’s not a public preview. If there is a show, it’s probably final dress.
First official preview is tomorrow

For those interested, the Works & Process session with the cast and creative can be found here. The cast performs three numbers (All White, Let’s Party, Outrun the Story) and the team discusses the show and their own relationships with its origins and topics.

I’ll take Michael R. Jackson’s messiest work over the overly workshopped, developed-by-committee, produced by entertainment corporation, lazy work that so often appears on Broadway any day.

was there an invited dress last night?? dying to hear anyone’s thoughts if you’re goin tonight !!

I will be there tonight in E103. I will report back!
I don’t care if it’s a smash hit or a twisted mess, I echo Kad’s sentiments.
If anything, I am going to see a singular version of the show that not a single soul outside of this theater tonight can say they saw

Just a heads up - Michael was around the lobby and informed us that this performance is basically everything ever written for the show…which is why Act 1 just ended, clocking in at 1:35
Posted: 3/15/23 at 8:48pm
Makes sense - they could cut a THIRD of act one and still have too much. This thing sh*t-tastic.
Posted: 3/15/23 at 8:50pm
Wow, it's halftime. Long first act! Detailed review coming later tonight, as there is just too much to say. :)

Cannot stress how excruciatingly long it was, how absolutely dumb every second was, and how obnoxious the audience was around me (full of the types to yell-laugh at everything and look around after to make sure people know that THEY ‘get it&rsquo
.
Cant’t wait for others to share their…thoughts. I’ve been cut off from buying first preview tickets because of this one.
