Who is a Miss Saigon Fan? What is your favorite part of the Show? Did any of you see Lea Salonga as Kim? If so, what was your opinion of her portrayal?
Thanks!

I'm not a fan, but I saw the show once in London and once on Broadway with Lea Salonga as Kim. She was playing the part for a limited run in (I think the year was) 1999. I thought she was ok in the role, but I didn't get any "OMG, it's Lea Salonga!! OMG she's amazing!!!" feeling. She was good, but nothing truly extraordinary.

Miss Saigon was the first show I saw when I was 7 years old, and my first Broadway love (I am listening to it right now, coincidentally) and I think its pretty marvelous. I've seen a bunch of Kims, having seen the show 6 times. I don't remember my first couple of Kims since I was young, and anyone could have wowed me. But Lea Salonga definitely owns that role. She touched me in a way I never thought a performer could. She is fantastic. Miss Saigon will always remain as one of my top 5 favorite shows.

I think that MISS SAIGON is great...but for some reason it's not something I can listen to over and over.

Not a fan, although the original cast of Salonga, Pryce and Callaway were superb.

MISS SAIGON's my first love, too. I remember getting into it when "The Little Mermaid" came out and my cousin saying Ariel's singing voice sounded like Lea Salonga, and I was like, who?? Lea's definitely now in my top five. When I finally saw MS in person, even though Lea wasn't in it anymore, I teared up! Ahh, I love that show.

Another Miss Saigon fan checking in. :) Surprisingly, my favorite moments of Miss Saigon are the moments in between the big songs. I think the musical interludes are even prettier than the big numbers.

never seen the show, but I absolutly love the cast recording, and I think Lea Salonga is fantastic on it.

My favorite numbers are:

The Overture
The Movie In My Mind
Dju Vui Vai
This is the Hour
Bui-Doi
The American Dream
Finale

The only redeeming qualities of that show were Jonathon Pryce and the Helicopter. My favorite part is when Kim shoots herself, Which should have been in the begining, or just after the Helicopter takes off and JP finished "The American Dream". This was the biggest waste of time and money to hit the boards, poo!

Now, I was asking for "Fans" of Miss Saigon not for immature people to come here and be rude. If I wanted to hear from people that dislike the musical I would have started a Message on the board for miss Saigon haters. Please feel free to start one of your own jimmirae since you have so much bottled up hatred toward this show...now on with the fans...my favorite scene is the nightmare scene.

I'm sorry that I didn't LOVE it as you so desire, but I am being HONEST. Sorry if that hurt your feelings.

Another HUGE Miss Saigon fan here. It was my first show and therefore was also the show that got me hooked on broadway shows. Loved Why God Why as well as Sun and Moon. Of course, the helicopter was awesome as well. I got to backstage after the show when it was here in Chicago as well. Great to see how all the special effects were done.

It was the first musical I ever got really interested in, and it was also the first Equity musical I ever saw, but I'm not really a huge fan.

Don't pick on jimmirae. He obviously is a little slow and has a reading comprehension problem.

It should've been great but my only exposure to it was with the current non-equity tour, and it left a very bad taste in my mouth. Everyone keeps assuring me it can be great, but judging from the tour, I can't help but think otherwise.

(The set design was very beautiful and enchanting though. And Jon Jon Briones was incomparable.)

Let me tell you I saw the non equity tour as well last week and it was pretty disgraceful. I still enjoyed the music and story even though the staging and acting of the show was just awful.

Yeah, I saw your review yesterday and I was in total agreement. Unlike you though, I found Alan Gillespie to be a stronger performer than "Kim" (I believe I saw Jen Hubilla). Who's playing the Engineer now? The songs were pretty good - it was just the performances that really killed it.

I'm a huge fan! I saw the show twice. My favorite song is I Still Believe, Why G-d, Why?, and The Confrontation. Bui-Doi is gorgeous, and so moving as well. The last time I saw Miss Saigon I was 10 and I went with my mom and Grandma for her 80th birthday. The best part for me was the end, not because it was over but because of what my Grandma said to me. She sat in her seat; she couldn't get up because she was so emotional and entranced. She knew I loved to sing and she told me, "One day I'll see you on that stage." She passed away 5 months later. Every song I sing is because she believed in me and because I'll do everything in my power to make her dream come true. Seeing Miss Saigon with me made her see how much I loved theater and made her my inspiration...

It's one of my most favorite shows!!! It is easily tied up there for number one (with a whole lot of others!!!) I never got to see Lea, but all 8 times I've seen the show I ball like crazy. It's funny because I know what happens and everything. I only wish I could have seen Pryce as the Engineer, his LCR performance is amazing. And I personally love Ruthie's interpretation of Ellen the best. I actually saw her!!! Yea!!

I recently discovered the show at Westchester Dinner Theatre a little over a year ago and fell in love w/ it. Saw the tour twice, obviously had some weaknesses, but it's still such a great show I still loved it. It's one of the few cast recordings I can listen to over and over and never get sick of. The music is just soo beautiful. Favorites are The American Dream(what a showstopping 11 o'clock number to interrupt your tears) and the Last Night of the World. The show really affects you emotionally, and...gah, I just adore it.

I was on a road trip after high school with some friends and they had the Miss Saigon cast recording w/ Lea on from begining to end in the car. I listened to the enitre story that way, and was so into it, in fact that when Kim shoots Thuy, all I heard was this gunshot and I thought maybe he had shot and killed Tam, her son, and I screamed. Everyone laughed at me, I guess I really didn't realize how into it I had gotten.

When I went to NY for my first college spring break, there was no doubt in my mind what show I wanted to see as my first B'way musical. Miss Saigon. I loved it (although I wasn't crazy about the Chris - I don't remember who it was, sorry) and as soon as the curtain came up for act 2, I was weeping...because I already knew what was coming.

That was almost 10 years ago, and since then my taste and my range of theater experiences has widened significantly. I have seen everything I could on Broadway, in London's West End and regionally. I will always hold a special place for Miss Saigon.
