Kim-Unknown person or Jenna Ushkowitz
Chris-Aaron Tveit or Jeremy Jordan
Ellen-Anna Kendrick
Engineer-Hugh Jackman or Joel Grey
Gigi-Charice
I don't know this show that well so I'm casting this without much education about it.

I think Gigi is supposed to be older than Kim.

I don't really think that Charice has the acting chops for any role in this movie. She was terrible on Glee, at least.

Engineer; Mickey Rooney ala Breakfast at Tiffany's.

In terms of acting, Joseph Gordon Levitt would be a very good contender for Chris. (Lea Salonga had a perfect description about Miss Saigon "grit, sex, passion, romance...") I'm pretty sure he can deliver the acting which is needed in the film translation of the musical. I know he can sing - just saw him on Oscars stage - but as to how well he can sing Chris' parts, I don't know. I hope he'll audition so the producers/directors/composers can find out!

Aaron Tveit, he'll also be a good choice. Saw some clips of his Graceland show. I think he'll just have to hone more his acting (film).

Who will KIM be? Still a mystery - and unknown Miss Saigon Movie Cast

Anna Kendrick for Ellen!

If he can't be cast as an engineer, a robert-downey-jr-kinda actor would be a good one.

Who's your choice for director? Ang Lee won the oscars best director, do you think he can do a musical? lol

Aaron Tveit looks like an all-amercan boy, and has a fabulous voice!
The original engineer was a British white man, Jonathan Pryce.
He wasn't Asian originally.

The Engineer is Eurasian. He is half French, half Vietnamese. I think it is important that he looks like it. If he looks too Asian or too Caucasian, we lose part of his struggle and what made him who he is. He is a bui-doi and was treated as an outcast by the Vietnamese society.

Who in Hollywood would fit that bill, Wildcard?

I actually disagree though that the Engineer doesn't fit in with Vietnamese society because he looks too white. That's never mentioned in the show. In fact, the Engineer laments that he doesn't fit in with his "race" because of his values and capitalist ideals.

That doesn't make it right.

The Engineer's racial blending being visible fits with the character interpretation though- he's decidedly "half and half." Implied to be bisexual (halfway through his American Dream fantasy he gleefully welcomes in the dancing boys, as well as some of his patter during What A Waste), he is neither Asian nor White, neither gay nor straight, neither patriot nor rebel.

His plight, from an academic standpoint, is liminality- falling into the cracks BETWEEN easy classifications. He isn't the subaltern, the helpless and powerless "victim class" exemplified in Kim and the other casualties, but he isn't the power broker Americans or militant full Vietnamese either.

That's why I've suggested Ken Jeong several times- besides having the right style and persona for the role, and the chops to be sleazy, pathetic and somewhat likable at the same time, Jeong has an interesting mix of decidedly Euro and decidedly Asian physical traits, more so than Jackie Chan, whose name also gets thrown around a lot.

It's not mentioned lyrically in the show but Eurasians were generally treated as outcasts in Vietnam during the 20th century. It didn't matter if he looked Asian or looked European. Just being mixed blood was enough to be discriminated against.

In any case, this is just the casting ideal. Unfortunately, there are hardly any BANKABLE actors that fit the bill. The way some execs think, I wouldn't be surprised if they cast the whitest actor just as long as he can bring the $$$ in.

Kim is pure vietnamese in the story right?

Prior to Jonathan Pryce, I think I saw an interview of Cameron Mackintosh mentioning that they considered Geoffrey Rush (?) to play the engineer but said he was too "white" for the role.

I agree with Justin Timberlake as Chris. They will NEVER go with an unknown, no matter how talented or perfect they are (Jeremy or Aaron) I think Justin Timberlake has the star power to pull it off.

The romance of Chris and Kim loses it's believability and integrity if the actors are well known and don't sing the balls out of the material.

There are plenty of other roles for big names (Engineer, John, etc)

Does anyone knows if this girl, Krizza Neri tried out for Miss Saigon. I like her rendition of the song "I dreamed a dream." If the Philippines wants to stage Les Miserables she would be a perfect Fantine.

I doubt Justin Timberlake could do the score justice vocally.

Here is how Mackintosh is thinking of doing the film:

The financial success of Les Miz “is going to encourage someone to do Miss Saigon,” said Mackintosh, praising the show’s “inherently cinematic” device of using dreams as an effective technique for a film version. “It allows you to do anything in your head, which is the thing that made Chicago work. [Unlike Les Miz] you only need to record some of Miss Saigon live, because it would be a visceral drama. The storytelling part of it.”

I'm not sure Tevit or Jordan would want the role. By the time this is filmed, they will both have done movie musicals. (Tevit in Les Miz and Jordan in Last Five Years). They may not want another part in a movie musical for fear of that restricting what roles they're offered in the future.

I love the idea of combining pre-recorded vocals with live singing and a more cinematic approach. The can do so much more cinematic things with the songs than they did in the Les Miz film.

I also think the "Chicago" comparison is good, because they used a lot of theatrical scenery there. Many scenes in Miss Saigon need to feel warm and almost theatrical. "Last night of the world" works better in a set with a bamboo bed with mosquito net and a turning fan, instead of a too realistic, crappy bleak room and street. That would suck the feel out of the film.

They should film most of it in studio's if you ask me.
To create a feel that almost all the other Vietnam war films and images are missing. Most of the scenes are indoors anyway.

I found this rare clip of a young Lea Salonga and Monique Wilson. It really shows how young and innocent a "Kim" should be. It also shows clips of previous romantic Vietnam war movies as an example of how this film should NOT look.

What do you think of Erika Fong? Here is a clip of her singing on Power Rangers Sammuri, it probably/might not be a true representation of her talent or potential:

' The romance of Chris and Kim loses it's believability and integrity if the actors are well known and don't sing the balls out of the material. '

i disagree and think the opposite. actors just belting out on screen close up wont work and will lose a lot of the emotion as it will seem ott. theatre is about the big emotions, cinema is more about the smaller things

Cut it out with the Les Miserables. I think Saigon should be cast with unknowns. Except Aaron Tveit, love that idea. He would make a great Engineer. Telly Leung would make a great addition to a cast like this also. A film version Miss Saigon would have the potential to make an amazing picture if its done the right way, maybe hire Hooper for this one too.
