Harry Potter has metal detectors as well. I think it will be the new norm. After the Boston Marathon, I am nit surprised. I’d rather be annoyed and safe.
Not to keep being that person, but is “Sparkling Diamonds” in the show at all?!

The ticket prices make so much more sense now. And, honestly, makes me feel less bad if I shell out full price later on in the run."
Agree. Everything is first rate from the sets and costumes to the choreography and cast. It makes sense for the ticket prices to be what they are. But does it make sense for the balcony to be sold out while there were a lot of empty seats in the more expensive dress circle. Hopefully word of mouth will help sell tickets for the remaining shows because this production is fantastic. I agree that this is a lot better than the movie, but then again I didn’t care much for the movie. Plus I do prefer this ending to the ending in the movie. Aaron and Karen were fantastic. They sang the hell out of those songs.
Can someone tell us which of these songs remain in the show?
Nature Boy Lady Marmalade Because We Can Sparkling Diamonds Rhythm of the Night Your Song Children of the Revolution One Day I'll Fly Away Diamond Dogs Elephant Love Medley Come What May El Tango De Roxanne Complainte De La Butte Hindi Sad Diamonds
The show opening number was Lady Marmalide. I want to say the diamond song was in there too but I am not sure—there wasn’t a normal list of songs in playbill—just two pages with alphabetical songs with credits of publication in tiny print I guess I will have to see movie again to give fair comparison. About the security check—they didn’t seem to have a problem with purses just with backpacks. I’ve never had this happen to me before in Boston or NYC theaters and it was a small backpack, not even a rolling one. The person after me didn’t have problem since she talked to different supervisor. They claimed that email had gone out to ticketholders but i never got an email telling me what could or couldn’t bring. I was going to complain to box office tomorrow so maybe for future performances they’ll have a bag check or consistent policy.

What remains = Nature Boy, Marmalade, Because We Can, Sparkling Diamonds (but really cut short), Your Song, Elephant Love Medley (but with MAJOR changes/new songs), Come What May, Children of the Revolution, Roxanne, Complainte De La Butte (it's background music in some parts). I think Rhythm of the Night was also in it but really cut short.
I should add they definitely had some mic issues top of the show. Karen's mic went out for a few lines during her big entrance so not sure if people at the back of the theater heard her (I was in the orchestra and I was able to still hear her sing).

Lots of people. It was in an alley behind the theater. The line stretched half a block. Aaron and Karen came out quickly and signed and took pictures with everyone.
Sets, choreography and lighting are award-worthy. I feel the book needs A LOT of work. First act felt really short, and second act felt rushed. Elephant Love Medley is the act one finale; great arrangement, very fitting new songs. They need a big effect for the last few moments of that song though, pyrotechnics or something.
Roxanne - major disappointment. It has no dramatic tension, it’s just Christian singing the entire song. The Duke doesn’t attack Satine in this number (due to plot change) so the entire impact is lost. The song doesn’t have a clear ending either, I was sure it was going to have a massive finish after the scene at Duke’s place, but it never happened.
Satine’s death is underwhelming too. It just happens, and Christian sings Come What May with the ensemble as the last number of the show (think the music video version, complete with Lady Marmalade at the end – a bit random).
Such a shame Danny Burstein doesn’t have much to sing, not even Show Must Go On. I pray they make changes to the book/score. The show has a lot of potential and can be incredible. Also, a lot of the songs got laughs as they were starting, probably because people were recognising them as stuff they heard on the radio. The problem is, I’m not sure if the production can avoid the comic effect. It has issues with the general tone. Some of the laughs were justified, some of them happened in more dramatic moments (‘Crazy/Rolling in the Deep’).

Thanks for this. Disappointed about some of the omitted songs, but intrigued about how some of the new songs fit in.

Nope that's gone too because of the plot changes. Zidler doesn't really have a solo and his part I thought was slightly smaller than the Duke's (the Duke had more solos). Would have loved to have more Zidler imo coz I thought Danny was fantastic in the role.
Ugh. No “Like A Virgin” or “Show Must Go On” for Zidler?!? Bummed by some of these changes.

I also wonder if, with so many legalities with song rights and whatnot, will we not get a full cast album by the time it hits New York. Yes, this was a first preview of an out-of-town tryout, but just thinking ahead.

I'd hope they thought of that. They've gotta know this would be a hugely in-demand album from the movie fans alone.
