First pic of bows. Just know they do something really cool for Christian and Satine

I really want to know if the ending is different from the film.
Opinions on this could be all over the place. I was talking with friends today about the set photo, and half of us said it’s one of our favorite movies, while the other half said it’s terrible.
I LOVE how they’re doing the bows for Satine & Christian.

@MoulinRougeBDWY is Broadway’s vers of summer blockbuster film! 1st act was quick hits in popular songs from classics to new hits. 2nd act started w/ awesome rendition of Gaga’s Bad Romance & later had Adele’s Rollin’ in Deep. Set/layout was super creative. GO C b4 it hits NYC!
I am dead from "Roxane" and "Rolling in the Deep" and the whirlwind of feelings. You are beautiful @MoulinRougeBDWY cast. #cancerseason
It's intermission at @MoulinRougeBDWY and Karen Olivo and Aaron Tveit are just delightful. I will never recover from Olivo's version of "Firework."
The performances were spectacular spectacular. Aaron Tveit is adorbs. Design elements were stunning. Some pieces of the book and songs need work. Overall, what a fun night! #MoulinRouge @MoulinRougeBDWY

So from what I’m seeing on Social media it seems like the costumes, sets, and performances are incredible but the book and music needs some work. Apparently the opening number, Karen Olivo singing Firework and the 2nd medley are the standout out numbers.

Just came from tonight’s performance—agree that the sets were stunning and the choreography was amazing so I think those two categories would be shoo-in for Tony’s. The first half kind of made me think of “Disaster” with all the contemporary songs excerpts for comic effect. The second half with amazing dance to Bad Romance started off great and afterwards made me think of La Boheme a bit but then at ending when you thought they were doing bows they had a full cheery dance number which lasted another 10 minutes almost.
The theater itself was not the best experience—lines were around the block since they opened almost half an hour late and security included metal detectors to walk through. I had a small daypack with me and they flat out told me no backpacks and said I couldn’t go in. I tried to argue with her since I had made a special trip to city by train and couldn’t just put it back in car but she was insistent and her supervisor said I could take my valuables and leave my pack next to the metal detector. I finally just took my things out of my backpack and folded it into my purse but strangely the person after me came in with her backpack since i guess she argued more effectively than I did.
I sat up in the balcony in the back row and had no problems seeing or hearing things. There were at least three points where the staff in the bar area were making so much noise that people went out into the lobby to tell them to be quiet. Hopefully that will be fixed in future performances.
How was Aaron, Karen, and Danny?

Thanks for the review!
Thanks for that! Can you tell us more about the production, performances, and which songs are in the show? Anything from the movie that is or isn’t included?

I walk around with a small backpack all the time and wasn't ever asked to abandon it. Are they serious that they won't allow normal size backpacks? What about purses?
Metal detectors? That's insanely annoying and will slow the entire process down. They should tell people to come at least 45 minutes early or always expect to start the show late. It's very odd that Boston would have more security than Midtown NYC.

I just got back to hotel. I will try to give a brief synopsis. First of all, their was no one telling people what to do outside of the theater so lines formed on both sides of the door. People were going in to pick up tickets and not coming back out so I went in. Right after that, a staff member went outside and told people they could come in, but they never opened the doors so people had to hand it off to the next person. The theater is stunning but the lobby is small. As mentioned by another poster, things were delayed so the lobby was too full. There are two bars and a merch stand in the lobby. They have t-shirts, mugs, magnets, keychains, posters, and totes. When we finally got in, we felt like we were going into the Moulin Rouge. The Diamond seats were fun, but they had a couple of downsides. There are sooooo tight, you can barely move. Also, there is a lot that happens on the passerelle so if you have those tickets, be prepared to twist. They do have drink servers for those sections so that helps. The show was great. Aaron, Karen and Danny were amazing. The ensemble was so tight that it did not feel like a first preview. There is so much music...I gave up trying to remember. Royals, Firework, Single Ladies and You Can’tAlways Get What You Want were highlights for me. There are some deviations from the movie. I missed “Someday I’ll Fly Away.” The Elephant Love Song. Melody was changed up but works well. There were some spots in the second act that seemed to drag a little bit. (The Duke takes Satine to get a new wardrobe to live in the upper class and the MFL Ascot Horse Race people show up. Overall, it was a lot of fun. I think if they lose a little of the dialogue in the second act, it will flow better. The end was a little confusing because you didn’t know if it was a curtain call or another number. Danny Burnstein bent over and kissed the top of my head at the end so that was fun.
Is Satine’s ending in this the same as it is in the film?
That catalogue has to come with a hefty price-tag, no?
^^^ And that is why the ticket prices are so damn high.

The ticket prices make so much more sense now. And, honestly, makes me feel less bad if I shell out full price later on in the run.

I think if Moulin Rouge! were to compete in today's Oscar race, it would definitely suffer from the preferential ballot as it has proven to be a very divisive film. I think it especially showed with Baz Luhrmann (rightfully) getting snubbed for a Best Director nomination.
Sad to here the Elephant Love Song medley has been altered. One of the most thrilling parts of the film, along with towards the final scene where Christian goes back to Satine, signing Come What May. Is that part still in?
Also, is “Nature Boy” still in this?
Sad to hear “One Day I’ll Fly Away” didn’t make it in.
I so hope the Satine “Come What May” finale is still in tact.
With seating named after it, I would hope Satine still makes her entrance during a Sparkling Diamonds medley.

Is "Lady Marmalade" still in this production?

The ending is slightly different from the movie.
Christian basically hijacks the stage to kill himself until Satine sings to him (Your Song) to signify her love for him. Satine still dies in Christian's arms (I felt it was kind of sudden that she just dies but that might just be me. Basically I thought the death scene was better in the movie) They also changed the plot of the play they were putting on at the Moulin Rouge (no more sitar player/evil Maharaja). Just a generic rich guy, a courtesan and a struggling artist love story which kind of mimics the plot of the movie itself. "Your Song" kind of becomes the more central song between Satine and Christian and not "Come What May". That change kind of left me disappointed.
I can't remember all the new songs (there were sooooo many I lost track at some point) but off the top of my head
Single Ladies, Firework, Shut Up and Dance, Raise Your Glass, Royals, You Can't Always Get What You Want, Never Gonna Give You Up, Bad Romance, Rolling in the Deep, Crazy, Chandelier. I'll post more as I remember them.
I agree with the poster above, I really missed One Day I'll Fly Away but maybe they couldn't get the rights to that one song?
The cast was phenomenal. Choreography and set were amazing. Show ran too long (almost 3 hours, we let out at like past 11) so they definitely need to cut a lot of dialogue, particularly in the 2nd act. Book needs work, I would have liked them to develop Zidler a little bit more rather than the Duke (but I guess it is a love story so that kinda makes sense) coz I thought Danny was great in the role. Curtain call was fun but definitely too long. Sadly, I'm not really buying into the chemistry between Satine and Christian, although Aaron and Karen's individual performances were fantastic. But overall, I really enjoyed it. You can tell they invested a lot in this production so I can only imagine how much grander it will be when it makes it's way to NYC.
Seeing this again towards the end of the run so I'm excited to see what changes they'll make from tonight.
