I've been going to next to normal since it opened on broadway and tomorrow's final performance will be my 9th time and I don't remember being this upset about a show closing since Rent. I'm hoping next to normal comes back soon enough.
Oh man! I didn't realize it was still open. I thought it closed before I got back to NY. I would have tried to get tickets for a couple days ago had I known this. Bummer. Hope they have a great last few performances!! Will definitely miss the show.

Not even sure what to expect in the Booth tomorrow at 7:30pm. I've seen the show more times than I care to say, but every single time it gets me. I'm nervous for it to end, because I just don't know how to bid goodbye to such a beautiful and touching piece. I feel like we'll all be audibly weeping tomorrow night...I'll let ya'll know how it turns out! (For those of you who won't be there...which I'm guessing, on this thread, might be few in number.)
um i'm like a mess NOW just thinking about it! what a strange thing for a show to inspire such a reaction! i wonder if the cast is happy or relieved...
Saw the show tonight!! Wow!! The last time I saw it was in November it was great then but this time it was Perfection! I feel like Marin and Jason look so much more comfortable in their characters. They portray their characters flawlessly. And such emotion! It was just beautiful!! And they rest of the cast was phenomenal as well. Man I can't wait to see KDM as fiyero! What a voice!
The only thing I thought was a little weird was Marin was speaking some of the line that normally are sung. Has she always done this?
Can't wait for tomorrow! I will be bringing a box of tissues:'(
^ Marin spoke through some of the lyrics the few times I saw her. Her phrasing is brilliant. I had the pleasure of seeing the show 10 times since it opened at Second Stage. I'm so glad that it had such a long run, especially when no one thought it could succeed on Broadway. Here's to the creative team, producers, cast, and crew!
"In theater, the process of it is the experience. Everyone goes through the process, and everyone has the experience together. It doesn't last - only in people's memories and in their hearts. That's the beauty and sadness of it. But that's life - beauty and the sadness. And that is why theater is life." - Sherie Rene Scott
I saw it for the 7th time tonight, 3rd time with the "new" cast. My mom has been wanting to see it, so tonight was her first time. I have NEVER been more affected by N2N as I was tonight. My family has gone through a lot in the past two years, and sitting there crying with my mother, holding hands, let a lot of bad feelings go and we both walked out with lighter hearts and burdens lifted off our shoulders, if only for a while.
Sorry it's not a typical review, but I just wanted to let that out.
Exactly what lyrics did she speak? (I mean, I'm trying to remember - are these like mid-song things e.g. the screeching in "I don't know", overcome with emotion in "I dreamed a dance")?
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
^Marin spoke several lines, but she picked them carefully, I saw them as acting choices.
Sad to see them go. Because it wasn't Just another musical (get it?) And so... Goodbye.
For those who thought NEXT TO NORMAL wouldn't have a life outside Broadway, well it's now playing in 4 cities, 9 different countries and has been translated into 6 languages.
Earlier this morning I snagged a ticket to tonight's closing show. I can't wait, it's going to be insane. I hope they have ambulances on hand for the all the fangurls.
Most of what I remember her speaking is at the end of "The Break" when she repeats "What happens if the cut, the burn the break was never in my brain, or in my blood..." and then sings "but in my soul." Don't know if that's something she continually does. Forgive me if I have some of those lyrics out of order.
They still have tickets to the closing show tonight??
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

That'd actually be really amusing. You should interview them after they get their names called and ask them each to say a few words. You could say that you're from a new internet blog and I'm sure that they'd all log on to see themselves. I could help you film it. Hilarious.
