Well this is a depressing statement. But apparently a true one, based on other responses to it. Stars only do revivals now? I will say, this is probably not true if a big composer is involved. Sondheim never had trouble getting stars to be in new shows, and Lloyd Webber doesn't. Miranda hasn't used stars, but that may be more about the kind of shows he does (which require younger, more popular music-oriented signing styles)."
Also, Miranda has only had two shows…Heights was a long time ago and did win best musical, and Hamilton is the star. Between the pandemic and its constant availability (with the original cast, no less) on Disney, I imagine that it will not ultimately run as long as it would have, but Hamilton was probably the biggest hit, I.e., hard-ticket in my 55+ years of theatre going.

He'd help sell tickets. But if he's attached, why not make a casting announcement already? This show is so hush-hush."
Do you really believe that he will sell tickets? I don’t, for a second. Re other comments re hoping it’s Anna Uzele, I sure hope it is not because I have never heard of her and if I haven’t, John Q. Public theatergoer has not either.
Clearly the Music Man has been the biggest hit of 2022 at the box office. Without HJ or someone of his name recognition not been cast as HH, would it have made it past March, especially given the disappointing (overall) reviews. One wonders what SHIH would be doing if it had at least one big star in one of the lead roles.
If NYNY doesn’t have star(s) in lead roles, at a minimum it will be opening at a distinct disadvantage. Is there a 56 years later Angela Lansbury out there…well known, if not a box office attraction, who can become a 58 years later AL if this gets great reviews? (Of course, it remains vague as to whether the LM role is even a significant one in this production, given some of the things we have read).

I think you are confusing Broadway names with Hollywood stars which is where this thread was leaning. Yes Sondheim had no problem getting Bernadette Peters and ALW got Michael Crawford easily but neither composer would have ever been able to land a star name for a new musical. As mentioned prior...getting Glenn Close was largely due to the fact that the show had already had a full-fledged production and the show had figured itself out.

Don’t quote me on that, though."
I do believe the above to be true, but I can tell you they are re-casting many of the ensemble. Some have left just in the past few weeks for other projects. One for an on going tour because he lost faith in this project. I first thought that was not a smart move, but after reading this thread, he made the right decision, plus being at The St. James Theatre.....I think that says a lot.
Also, friends of mine have been approached for investing in the Broadway production because they attending a reading or workshop. Something didn't feel right when those calls came in.
Neither Warren or DeBose would seriously be interested in this after the year they've had. DeBose just won an Oscar and is about to do a superhero movie. She's not coming back to Broadway for at least five years. Warren did that ABC miniseries which isn't winning an Oscar but it's the start of something. It'd be a bit foolish to stop her efforts to gain some sort of foothold in Hollywood to come back for this.
(side note the idea that Alicia Keys wouldn't sell tickets in this made me snort. She's certainly not the star she once was (and she couldn't sing it) but she'd sell this out for at least six months.)

How would you even know this? Are you just spit balling?
Colton Ryan is not in NY, NY. Neither is Adrienne Warren, although rumor has it she will be returning to Broadway much sooner than Ke3 thinks in a project not yet announced.
