When I first saw this headline my first thought was that a group of fans had gathered outside the hospital with candles. But upon closer inspection it's that her friends and family are gathering.

In the comments section on the Gawker article, someone mentions the paparazzi by saying:
"They're all gathered outside Lenox Hill now, and apparently a family spokesperson just begged everyone to leave."
That is awful, but alas, not surprising.
"You pile up enough tomorrows, and you'll find you are left with nothing but a lot of empty yesterdays. I don't know about you, but I'd like to make today worth remembering." --Harold Hill from The Music Man
Didn't I just post in this thread? It's late and I forget.
Anyway, here's a different article from the one that I thought I'd posted. This one isn't about Richardson so much but rather the media and how they handle times such as this. It echos the sentiments of many people in this thread Media Vultures, Waiting On Death

Interesting article. What's also interesting is how it seems Paul Newman and Ron Silver flew under the radar. Though I don't know if Ron Silver was prominent enough to warrant such treatment. I didn't even know he was sick and while I saw pics of Newman showing him very gaunt some months, I think, before his death, you didn't hear about it everyday.
But this is very sudden and traumatic. People are in shock about someone who I think is well liked and want to find information, hopefully that she is ok. Doesn't condone the press being vultures, but it's not surprising. The one thing to notice is except for news of her arrival (which was expected), a picture of family and reports of people going to the hospital, it's been very quiet since early afternoon of anything really new. Interesting there are no pictures since her mom's, too, that I've seen anyway. Maybe even they realized after the fact that it was tacky, to say the least.
This is such tragic news and she's truly a wonderful actress! I have heard many good things about her stage work, but saw her in lighter fare like Maid In Manhattan and Parent Trap and found to be delightful. I hope that things get brighter as the day goes on.
I feel that the media trying to invade upon the personal space of a family in the midst of a tragedy such as this one is disgusting behavior. When a tragedy happens in their families, I'm sure they wouldn't like a camera shoved in their face whilst going to potentially say goodbye to a loved one. The media is so atrocious and should be ashamed of themselves.
"Anybody that goes to the theater, I think we’re all misfits, so we ended up on stage or in the audience.” --- Patti LuPone.
If I were the photographer who took those photos of Redgrave, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. It's disgusting. I feel dirty looking at them."
I agree 100%. I think the media; print (especially bloggers) and television, has shown an utter disregard and lack of respect for both Ms. Richardson and her family. The media feeding frenzy falls into the catagory of morbid. It's reprehensible. As hard as this is for the adult members of her family - imagine what their children must be going through. You'd think there would be more consideration, if not morality. Oh, I forgot the $$$ negates the morality issue. Stupid me. Excuse the mild rant - I'm frustrated and aggravated with the way this situation has been handled by so-called professionals. It's a money story for them and they all want to be first. Friggin' vultures.
I can understand the interest, especially in a forum such as this. But our interest is based out of caring, respect and love, not money. While sometimes our interest may appear to be somewhat overboard, our hearts are in the right place. That said; until something is definite from the family, I'll continue to pray and hope for the best for Ms. Richardson and her family.

I'm seeing a lot of articles that say "Hope is Lost", "Looking Grim", etc. I'm not posting any of those because they're all from smaller presses and don't really share anything new

All due respect, thank god for small miracles on your restraint, eris. Except for TONY's revoking the RIP headline story, we've been hearing essentially the same story for over a full day now. Over and over again. Sure, now and then a doctor weighs in on what he/she thinks, but that's all supposition, the story itself hasn't really varied.
I know that this is the way some people deal with things, but the need to post every single tiny detail (even if it's the same detail from a different source) I find a little ghoulish. The reason that the press photographs grieving mothers is because we've created a demand for it.
The family has said they will release a statement later. Can we please just wait for that?

Still praying and hoping for some miraculous good news.
I also just wanted to thank everyone here for keeping the thread up-to-date. I wouldn't have had time to keep on top of all the news sites, so I'm very grateful for this.
