He was horrible.
He was horrible.
AWFUL. He was AWFUL. I swear to God, if I had to hear him mention that damn briefcase one more time... And poor Octavia had to tolerate him for 4 hours until he finally opened it to absolutely no payoff. A 4 hour joke with no punchline. He needs to go far far away for a very long time.

Finally people are realizing how overrated he is.
I realized that in 1989.
He's more over-exposed than anything. Waaaaaaaaaaaay over-exposed.

Same here, I NEVER got the appeal. That "magic" trick bull**** was so self-indulgent, typical of his Tony shtick (where he is worshipped for it).
In his defense, hosting the Tonys is a different animal. It is not a big unwieldy mess like the Oscars but a tightly knit machine. It has plenty of talented performers performing and not giving long winded speeches. He did not have a prayer last night. He will be happy to never have to do it again.
The briefcase bit was beyond lame. Whoever dreamed it up needs to be staked on an anthill in the broiling sun with honey smeared over his body so he dies a long painful death much like the painful death we all endured watching it.
I found most of the evening, but especially NPH, pretty damn boring.

To me, he tries too hard...his shtick seems so forced.
And the optics...that's a bulbous head on a lanky frame in tighty whities. Didn't work in BIRDMAN nor on that particular stage. I was like...wtf.

The same show that airs on CBS? Really? CBS tries harder every year to tart the show up with whoever they can.

They need to bring back an Oscar Host with some class like Hugh Jackman!!!
I think they need to bring back someone with no class like Billy Crystal!
I think he had terrible writing. I actually laughed more at his off the cuff stuff than the prepared jokes. Some bad, bad writing tonight.
I liked NPH, although I didn't get the underwear stuff (not having seen Birdman yet). I thought his off-the-cuff stuff was clever. He sings well, he's charming, and he's not filthy. (Remember the ridiculous "I Saw Your Boobs" two years ago?)
I thought the worst part of the evening was Sean Penn's outrageous joke about restricting green cards. If I picked up the reference correctly, he was saying that Innaratu (or whatever his name is) shouldn't be allowed to stay in the U.S. because he's taking so many awards. I don't think immigration jokes about Mexicans are kosher in this anti-immigrant climate.
Yeah but I doubt anyone was offended since Sean Penn is as left wing as you can get!
He did just fine with the material he was giving. People's bitchiness of him is ridiculous.
Congratulations to all the winners.

Penn made a satirical joke about the state of the immigration policy in America and Iñárritu was in on the joke, commenting on it himself. NPH was just fine, although he might have rethought the lead writer's credit in consideration of some of the lamer material.

One can' t seem to escape NPH. His home is featured in this month's Architectural Digest. It's a very nice one.
I didn't watch the Oscars, one reason being the host! I found his smug schtick on the Tonys excruciating.

Check Twitter. Many were not amused and were not so sure Iñárritu was in on the joke as much as saving Penn from looking like a total ass.
Being left wing like Penn doesn't give someone license to make a stupid remark. Hopes were high for NPH...but the producers and writers need be horsewhippped.
