New Lydia Deetz ( who do you think should replace Sophia Anne Caruso )
Posted: 2/25/20 at 10:42am
I think for now it'll be Presley and Sydney Lucas will take over next month or April after she's actually prepared.
For the third time, it's too bad Sabrina Carpenter is doing Mean Girls. Since I saw it in DC, I totally imagined her as Lydia. Oh well.

We agree that sabrina carpenter would make a great Lydia !
We saw the production in DC as well. Glad we got to see Sophia shine in the role while we could.
Do you think they will announce today ?

Honestly I think they will move Presley to the role for the remaining four months. It makes the most sense in terms of business. Presley appears to have a good rapport with Alex (as he participates in her TikToks) and the cast, she's exceedingly present on TikTok (which some could argue helped immensely with the show gaining popularity among a younger crowd), is well liked and fits the role well. Presley's ensemble roles are Shrunkie (the shrunken head guy) and the jockey in the Netherworld as well as being the Girl Scout understudy. (though Brooke has performed in as the Girl Scout several times) It may actually be easier to hire a swing for her ensemble roles and keep Dana as the Lydia understudy. The production could be waiting to announce if they are drafting a new lead contract that would be required.

It doesn't matter what we think.

Really not sure why the producers would want to stunt cast this. The show is pretty clearly closing June 6th (meaning, no earlier and no later), so it's not as though a star is going to help them extend or prevent them from reaching the June 6th closing. They may as well just save the money and go the "promote the understudy to get us through the last 3.5 months" route.

You. You, the OP, are the new Lydia.

Definitely makes sense to not stunt cast. Unless they are trying to shift the narrative away from current attention.

Dana just posted on Instagram she and Presley will be splitting the role of Lydia this week:
Presley: 2/28-8pm, 2/29-2pm & 8pm, 3/1 @ 3pm
Dana: 2/25-7pm, 2/26-2pm & 8pm, 2/27 @ 7pm

We wonder if they are doing what you implied. Alternating roles until a contract is ready.

I think it depends on if the show actually scores a move to another theatre. If they are just gonna play out the run, split the role between Presley and Dana. But if they are actually gonna move theatres (looking less and less likely) then I think they will take this week of Dana and Presley covering to rehearse a legit full time replacement. Sydney Lucas would be great but really I feel that Presley is good enough to be the FT in the role. She does wonders for the show on her social media with the fandom. She's a great asset to the show.

If they go the Book of Mormon route, you'll find out at the new Lydia's soundcheck.

This was mostly a 2012-2014 phenomenon, but you wouldn't find out about a new cast member until someone else in the cast posted their soundcheck on social media. For a while the cast list on the website was such a wreck because they were terrible at updating it even a few days after a new Elder Price or Cunningham started. For a while (I want to say 2 days to a week), they listed the same Elder Cunningham as being on tour and on Broadway.

Personally I think they are taking this week to rehearse a swing to take over Presley's parts in the ensemble and a lead contract isn't ready just yet. I'm not sure how equity contracts work and if they can split the role for nearly three and a half months as understudies.

"We wonder if it would be easier just to rehearse an outside actor for the lydia role instead of having to rehearse a new swing for all the tracks Presley covers

They can only alternate the role of Lydia until March 10. AEA will require a permanent replacement by then. Not surprised they are alternating this week.

You say that as if Sydney Lucas has already been cast. Has there been any indication of that?
