how well did Next to Normal do on Broadway first time around?  I know it wasn't a complete flop financially like Chess as I know it ran for a bit but did it recoup?

That would be a shame but luckily it was filmed. I do think that we will get a revival of next to normal in the next few years even if it’s not this one though. Maybe we’ll get more names to reduce risk.

Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

Yes, the original run recouped in March of 2010 and continued to run until January of 2011.

It did recoup but the costs were less than 300k per week. That’s crazy cheap. Good producing and different a different world. I assume it’d be double or more to do it today.

Poster on the other board confirms this is no longer transferring as Levy has chosen another show.
(Ragtime/Lost Boys or both ?)

If PBS, I wonder if it’ll be the same season as Yellow Face and Suffs.

Ragtime. (I'm assuming since I just heard today is still planning its transfer.)

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I cannot wait. This is one of my favorite all time productions. Ever.

Now we need a cast recording. Even better, they need to bring this over to NY. I know it’s no longer happening…

Is the production that aired on PBS a different version than what appeared on Broadway? I only saw the Broadway version once but it seemed like there were significant differences in this, particularly with the character of Gabe.

This was really wonderful. I saw this in 2010 with Marin Mazzie and Meghann Fahy and loved it then, but now as a dad of a daughter who survived an intestinal blockage at three months (which was only discovered, after multiple dismissals of me and her papa by the ER, by a patient nurse noticing a pin ****of blood in her diaper—and which, btw, I had somehow COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN WAS AN EERILY SIMILAR PLOT POINT IN THIS SHOW!) it was truly “feel everything.” I am amazed as how well the emotions transferred from the theatre to the small screen. I really, really loved the sadder Natalie and was impressed by how good of an actress Caissie Levy is. The slight downside: like Falsettos, there was a lot of strange language censorship/dubbing, like watching Showgirls on VH1. A small quibble!

DUH!!!!! Obviously. Was this production following a different text than the Broadway version. I noticed what seemed like significant differences.

He's clearly asking about *textual* changes? When has a new production automatically meant changes to the text? God you guys are so desperate to be superior assholes.

Certain people (especially those with a seniority/superiority complex) do little else but offer bits of sass and attitude that do nothing to drive the plot forward.

That was not clear in his original question at all and his response was extremely rude, like most of his posts.

Great production and beautiful performances, but the censoring was incredibly distracting to me. Not sure if they plan to release this elsewhere but I’d love to see it again without the dubbed curse words.
