What musicals do you want to see revived in the coming years that you think would also be a critical and commercial success based on the quality of the show and what today’s audiences are interested in?
Of course casting has a big impact on the outcome as well but there’s a lot of new talent out there that aren’t exactly marquee names (yet) that can headline a show if it’s already well known. Sometimes it does take star power to get revivals off the ground though.

still wanting to see Grand Hotel, Kiss of the Spiderwoman, and Chess revived.
Plus Pacific Overtures, Forum and Follies for our next slew of Sondheim revivals
But a remounting of the recent Sunday in the Park With George with Jake Gyllenhaal and Annaleigh Ashford (at least for a limited engagement) remains at the top of my vision board

- Love those ideas! I know they’ve been trying to get Chess to happen hopefully there’s still smoke in the fire!
some titles I think could work are
- The Most Happy Fella - last on Broadway in 1992
- Carnival! - never revived
- Purlie - never revived
- Raisin - never revived
- Footloose - never revived
- Brigadoon - last on Broadway in 1981
- Showboat - last on Broadway in 1994
- Annie Get Your Gun - last on Broadway in 1999
- Sweet Charity - last on Broadway in 2005
- Mame - last on Broadway in 1983
- Man of La Mancha - last on Broadway in 2003
the longer it’s not been on Broadway the harder it is to revive I feel. There’s lots of older shows (some they’ve done at Encore’s some not) that I’d like to see someone give a stab at but I understand why they wouldn’t. The shows above all have pretty well known stories that audiences today might appreciate an updated version of.

Thelong posters here are going to feel as old as I feel typing this comment...
....I think we all can agree it's time for a Broadway revival of:
RENT, HAIRSPRAY, MAMMA MIA! (let's hope the tour transfers!), BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (same!), THE PRODUCERS (revised for today!), 42ND STREET (there was an incredibly exciting production floating around the midwest that started at Drury Lane and moved to the Ordway that I thought was *SO* exciting)
More "niche" wishes from me:
DREAMGIRLS, AMADEUS, THE 25TH ANNUAL...SPELLING BEE, SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK, NO NO NANETTE, GUYS & DOLLS, AIN'T MISBEHAVIN', DAMN YANKEES, THE PAJAMA GAME
Ones that were on my list that I'm thrilled have fallen off (no joke, it felt like the right moment):
THE WHO'S TOMMY, SUNSET BOULEVARD

I would love to see Encores or someone take a crack at Senator Joe just so I can hear what it sounds like.

Just adding that I fully expect a big revival of A Chorus Line next season to commemorate it's 50th anniversary, and would LOVE to see Robbie Fairchild in the cast

- Show Boat will be 100 years old in 2026, I believe. Seems pretty warranted.
- Mame is the show I want to see the most, if they can find a great lead.
- I am always ready for Follies, but I will probably never be satisfied with any production that is not as good as the original.
- Dreamgirls and Nine, from the same season..
- Will never happen, but I would love to see Hallelujah! Baby and a scaled down The Happy Time, both from the same season.
- Pipe dreams: Purlie, Coco and Over Here.

I would love revivals of:
Chess
Titanic
Chorus Line for the 50th
Mame (I wonder if there is any smoke in the flame for the Cher revival)
AIDA
id personally love to see a revival of Sound of Music or South Pacific
Joseph or JCS (the 2012 revival was amazing and too short lived) (and a hal prince Phantom)
for Disney: I’d love a full remounting of Beauty and the Beast none of this downsizing Or Tarzan
Sondhiem: A Light Night Music or Sunday in The Park
not that I’m too interested in it … but do you ever think we’ll see a revival of show boat or ragtime those casts were enormous

Personally, I'd love to see revivals of:
1. Brigadoon (LCT probably should have done this with Sher at the helm instead of Camelot)
2. Kiss of the Spider Woman
3. A Little Night Music
4. Nine
5. Grand Hotel
6. Dreamgirls
7. Shenandoah (simply because I missed the original)
8. Follies (with Audra as Sally)

City of Angels with Jonathan Bailey, Matt Bomer, and Micaela Diamond...
I will pitch this until the end of time (or they all age out in ten years)

Cast Laura Benanti as the Mother Abbess, so she'll have played all four of the top female roles. (Yes, I count this as her Liesl.)

Beauty and the Beast
Aida
City Center Once Upon A Mattress
West End production of Next to Normal
A Chorus Line
I don't expect it but I'd be curious to see what Disney might do with Frozen now that movies 3 and 4 are in the works.

I know it's been revived a ton and that rumor has been shot down by Audra, but I would still love to see another production of Gypsy since it somehow remains one of the major shows I've never seen live.
Chess, as long as it's not the absolutely terrible book that they did for the Actors Fund Concert (though I'm afraid it will be).
Still hoping for Next to Normal to transfer over here as well
It would never happen but I'd love to see a Julie Taymor revival of Spiderman.

Gypsy is still happening with Audra as far as I know.
Wasn’t it rumored that Jamie Lloyd was going to tackle Sweet Charity after Romeo and Juliet comes to Broadway?
I have to agree about a 50th anniversary Chorus Line revival. It feels like it’s time again.

Last year I was listening to a lot if Kurt Weill's American musicals, and while some may not go over well today - for example Knickerbocker Holiday might be good for Encores but wouldn't sustain a long run - I'd love to see full productions of Lady in the Dark or One Touch of Venus.
How about Katrina Lenk in Lady in the Dark?
Oh and maybe Matt Doyle for the Danny Kaye part!

Showboat is likely gonna be the next full-scale revival as others have mentioned is approaching its Centennial Anniversary. It will likely have an all-star cast. Just cannot picture yet who’ll be in the cast.
For next season, along with Sunset, without a doubt, Donmar’s Next to Normal will transfer. Don’t see the entire London cast transferring, probably just Cassie and Jack Wolfe. AEA will probably want Americans in the rest of the company.
After Audra debunked the Gypsy rumors, the only other person I see, and hope, will lead Gypsy is Stephanie J Block. Don’t know if she’ll do it but one can only hope!

BRIGADOON - The 2017 City Center production starring Kelli O'Hara and Patrick Wilson was superb... especially the choreography by Christopher Wheeldon.
STARLIGHT EXPRESS - If the West End revival proves to be successful, perhaps it can be revived on Broadway if the financials work out. It's a family-friendly show and Disney needs competition in that sector. lol
HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH - I can't believe it's been 10 years since the musical first went to Broadway and with the recent Hedwig Fan Casting post on here, I hope the musical gets revived. I recently learned Jinkx Monsoon already performed as Hedwig in Seattle a decade ago but with the recent Hedwig Fan casting post in this forum, would love to bring this musical back! It hasn't been to West End yet so perhaps we'll see it there first. Heck I'd love to see Jonathan Bailey as Hedwig!
SCARLET PIMPERNEL - I'm a fan of Wildhorn music and really enjoyed the 2019 MCP production starring Tony Yazbeck and Norm Lewis.
AIDA - I hope Disney revives this musical someday though I think they'll only do so after Aladdin closes.
