Sweeney Todd isn't going anywhere before Labor day

Sweeney Todd is closing on May 5th after Aaron and Sutton’s contracts are up. There’s a tenant for the Lunt lined up for Fall 2024.

So the theater is going to just sit empty for four months right before summer, makes total sense

"

This happens quite literally ALL the time. Every year."

yes it totally does when a show is in profit and making well over a million a week

I Guess it will depend on how much money sutton and Aaron bring in.  If they’re making bank, maybe they will extend to Labor Day.  But why wouldn’t the producers just keep trying to keep the show running?

I believe the same approach will be taken With Cabaret. Eddie will wrap in September and they’ll do two more combos.

"

That is probably the most absurd prognostication I've heard in a very long time. I can't imagine the producers are going to spend tens of millions of dollars to gut and redesign an entire Broadway house just to throw in the towel after three limited cast runs.

They can recycle London leads for sure (Mason Alexander Park was so magnificent that I would go back in a hot minute to see him again), but also there are many people who can and would fill the roles (just like the Mendes revivals). At this point, people go to CABARET for the show itself and the experience of it, with the cast being a bonus.

For all we know, we could get Emcees like Andrew Garfield, Gavin Creel, Jonathan Groff, Jin Ha, Michael Urie, and Conrad Ricamora, or Sallys like Adrienne Warren, Micaela Diamond, Jeanna de Waal, Maude Apatow, Julianne Hough, or Solea Pfeiffer.

(Don't start with the "none of these are bankable names" - I'm just saying the possibilities are endless)

As far as star power goes, the London production has not cast anyone as a replacement who is even remotely comparable to Redmayne/Buckley. None of those people would sell out the Broadway production for weeks at a time unless they have a major career turnaround prior to replacing.
"

Fra Fee is looking like his career is blasting off, get him and Amy Lennox in there and i don't care how much it'd cost my dumb broke self from Alabama would be at every performance

I realize thesr are all hypotheticals, but Julianne Hough? Can she act?  Her understudy was on when I saw POTUS.  I'm scared that she could sell tickets, but would be not good.

If the money is right and the show a success, then people would do anything. (See: Sutton and Aaron in SWEENEY)

She has been in a number of films (including Footloose, Rock of Ages, Grease: Live and Burlesque), is a world-class dancer and and has released music of her own.

She was actually one of the best parts of POTUS since her naughty character belied her “good girl” image.

While she wouldn’t be able to be the first immediate replacement for Rankin since she would be hosting DANCING WITH THE STARS from September to December, she could certainly come in after.

I agree that Julianne Hough was an absolute surprise in POTUS.  So much better than I expected with really strong comedic chops.

Amazing how dismal Harmony's numbers were last week. I noticed they also are not on TDF listings this morning. I was hoping to get to see this after the first of the year but now I wonder if I will be able to.

A Beautiful Noise may be closing before Kimberly Akimbo.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I would expect to hear both Harmony and Ohio to close before we get to late April. But stranger things have happened!

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

If Shubert has other shows knocking on the door for the Belasco, Barrymore, and Broadhurst with the intention of opening before the Tony cutoff, I would expect them to close within the next month. mid-Feb at the latest.

FYI, A Beautiful Noise looks like they're on pace to break even through the Winter. If they get a boost in grosses for the Spring, that'll be a bonus. However, since their grosses were terrible last summer, I doubt it stays open past Memorial Day.

I'm taking the second part of that announcement with a grain of salt until I hear something more official but are we interpreting Ohio's closing "after 2 for 1 week" to mean Feb 4 (the date the 2-for-1 week sale ends on) or just sometime soon after 2-for-1 week, like mid-late February?

Asking because I currently have a place in NYC booked to go see it the first weekend of March (haven't bought the tickets yet cause I'm kinda holding off waiting to see if there is a closing announcement so as to hopefully avoid having to rebook) but just trying to get an idea as to how much turnaround time I may have to reschedule if a February closing date is in fact on the radar.

It won't make it to March for sure. Someone said it'll close on Feb 18, I think that's VERY likely

This was at the bottom of the Telecharge notification email:

"The producer would like to extend an offer to their other show, A BEAUTIFUL NOISE: THE NEIL DIAMOND MUSICAL. Spend at least $175 on a performance through March 17, 2024, and get a $100 American Express Gift Card. One gift card per household. Click here to redeem this offer."

I would not rule out Neil Diamond's musical closing in the coming months too

ABN probably closes sometime in April or May.

If it's possible Dear England is still coming this season, one of those would be basically the only available venues for it. Otherwise, I don't think there's anything left in the pipeline that wants to come into this season. My guess is that they'll be vacant until the Fall.

I think all these open theatres are too small for Beaytt and the Beast revival coming this winter (ie 2024-5 season).

I wonder if swept away will transfer

I would think it would return to the Palace or the Lunt. Someone here said the Palace was going to Tammy Faye, but that’s just a rumor.  Would they close Aladdin to make way for a Beauty revival?

Aladdin was rumored to getting moved to a smaller theater or even close so Disney could bring in Hercules. Hercules bombed at Papermill, so Aladdin stays put for now. Not sure if the B&TB revival goes to the barn that is the New Amsterdam.
