Phrases like "dizzy but enjoyable goof", "The show, with a somewhat cumbersome framing device, begins", and "then spring to life haphazardly" should be clues that this isn't a rave. He also calls the story "cluttered". He does have some nice things to say, but he's definitely not gushing.

I'm honestly surprised how many of these are blindly positive. The Deadline review is WILD.

“No offense but I didn’t think the straight dude from the Post would rave about this show..

This isn’t a show for a bunch of stuffy critics. They need to get some TikTok and Influencers and celebs to spread word of mouth. Sometimes ya need a happy-before-ya-go type show”
 

This is for the girls and the gays and it’s fully self aware of that for sure. It’s got a clear identity right down to the merch. Which a lot of shows have been struggling with lately.

I think us girls and gays deserve way better than this incoherent hot pile of cr...p though.

Oleksinski actually is quite nice about most of the cast.  He says he just wishes they were in a better show.  It seems like a pretty fair review.

Yup! This show needed the Britney endorsement so much more than it needed any review and now it clearly has it!

Wow, these reviews are really all over the place. I was expecting more mixed to negative, the really positive ones threw me a bit.

So, not quite the near-universal pans of Bad Cinderella, but not the largely positive reception of & Juliet.

These reviews, yes, are all over the place, just like MJ.

These reviews are better than the expected ones and adding Britney's endorsement I think it has a lot of potential to do better at the box office

I feel like the reviews largely go easy on the parts of it that work well, namely the cast.

I thought there would be more negative reviews but frankly, these are better than what I was expecting from a campy musical. For Oleksinski from the Post, I honestly think he has less taste in theatre than Jesse Green from NYT. Again, I’m not saying this show should have raves, but let’s be real here, this by no way is the next musical sensation. I’m just glad people like it and are willing to go and see it. I too might see it just for the fun of it. I love Britney Spears’ music. Every now and then, we could use a show that can put a smile on our faces and just have fun. Congrats to the cast and creatives on their opening!

But I must admit, I do love Elizabeth at NYT.

She is really smart, fair and funny. Wish she would review more shows on Broadway.

And yet Once Upon a One More Time, a new musical “based upon the music performed and recorded by Britney Spears” left me cold, frequently bored, and occasionally annoyed enough to verge on outrage. (One imagines the contract negotiations by which they came up with the precise phrasing by which the music–most of which Spears didn’t write–is credited might have a plot as complex as the show itself.) Derivative where it’s not baffling, and paper thin where it’s not derivative, Once Upon a One More Time can’t even pull off the baseline achievement of jukebox musicals: make the songs sound good."
