"I heard that they will be submitting Marc Kudisch for Best Actor instead of Featured Actor because they don't have any other men in the show for that category."
Could be, but categorizing Kudisch for Actor and Block and Hilty for Featured is just bizarre. I know bizarre things happen, but....
Just because they don't have any other men in the show that are considered "leading" doesn't mean that they should submit Kudisch there. Take Gypsy for example. Herbie has always been considered a Featured role, but there is no other male part in the show that is bigger. I think Kudisch would have a much better chance if they petition him for Featured.
Sure, but almost EVERYONE agrees that, in terms of substance, Rock of Ages has MUCH LESS than Shrek. Also, almost all audeicnes had positive things to say about Rock of Ages. Really, the nominees are as follows: Billy Elliot 9 to 5 (Unless things REALLY take a turn for the worse) Next to Normal Shrek
The only real shift I can see is if [title of show] DOES come back. Hey, who knows? Stranger things have happened. Also, even though Allisson Janey DOES give a great performance, it's Alice Ripley's award.
I think it's pretty clear that tos will not be reopening. If they were to reopen, they would get in before the cut off. And Eleah, I hope you weren't being serious...
This was on the [tos] blog: We've been getting lots of inquiries about what the heck this show at Feinstein's is all about on May 11th. Well, it's about an hour long and it's chock-full of cut songs and scenes from the classic Broadway Musical [title of show].
Among such lost gems as "The Quartet", "The Invisible Watermelon" and the show's title song, you'll also hear the first-ever live performance of "The Tony Award Song" in it's entirety. It's safe to assume that there'll be some snappy banter and entertaining tales as well.
All you die-hard tossers will not want to miss this one.

Rock of Ages will definitely be nominated in several categories. I'm sure it will be nominated (and probably win) for best lighting. It might also be nominated for choreography, costumes, etc. Probably best musical too, but I'm almost certain it won't win that one.
Throwing in a lot of lights doesn't make it good. Billy & 9to5 are fighting it out for choreography. Costumes....... not a chance, 9to5 has their hands on that & waiting to pull it in.
Piraqua, I am so impressed with your montage! Get it to the press. And I think it's about 90% correct If Kudish gets in the Lead category he would def take Bierko's spot. And Featured Actress in a Musical is an embarassment of Riches. Carol Shelly is amazing in BILLY ELLIOT and that makes six worthy noms, and never count out the Testa, even in a tiny role, she cooks, and Susan and Heidi, Oy!
And I seriously think and hope that TOS will get nods, score and book I hope. Wouldn't Beresse be a great suprise instead of that guy who managed to screw up his own Masterpiece.
Best Director of a Musical: Michael Beresse Stephen Daldry Kristen Hanggi Diane Paulus
Im my dreams, I know, but they are the four directors who proved their worth this season. Updated On: 4/12/09 at 10:40 PM
I'm a professional. Whenever something goes wrong on stage, I know how to handle it so no one ever remembers. I flash my %#$&.
"Jayne just sat there while Gina flailed around the stage like an idiot."
Is the rewriten Pal Joey book eligible for awards? I thought it was one of the better parts of the not-so-wonderful production. Also, what do y'all think [tos]'s chances are? I know its probably not going to win anything, but could it get nominations in any categories? I really hope Guys and Dolls is shut out other than its inevitable revival nomination, what a dreadful production.
What is the minimum number of shows they will nominate? I seem to remember most years there are 4 or 5, but haven't there been years where it went down to 3, when the committee felt there were not enough good shows?
