Dear Ms. Lupone. Ever think there are young people out there who may be 10-20 years old and have never seen "Phantom". If there is a revival in 10-15 years, there is a new audience for this show that may not be there right now.

Given that ALW has just lost his son, why do you think it appropriate to make this nasty comment about the eventual passing of ALW himself?
I LIVE for Patti and her opinions. You can disagree with them 100%, but darn it all, she is entertaining!
But come on, we can all smell a stunt with this Phantom closure and inevitable reopening, and good for her on calling it out. It had a good run, let it die.
(Anyone taking bets that it will play the same as the new Les Mis or Miss Saigon and not last very long in the new version they produce?)

She's one of the few people out there consistently telling people the unpopular truth - that''s why most of the plebeians on here can't stand her. Go, Patti, Go!
I may not agree with her all the time- hell, even most of the time- but I think her unapologetic, Bette Davis-esque bluntness in her unvarnished opinions is a nice antidote to the anodyne, saccharine, squeaky-clean nonsense that has become the go-to personality for the Broadway community these days.
She’s at the top of my list of Broadway divas I’d want to drink wine with.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."

This is the second time I’ve seen the Phantom fans here get their feathers up over something Patti’s said to Andy Cohen. In both cases, it’s been clear that they didn’t watch the footage of what she said and the context in which she said it. Any reasonable person would see she was playing a game and wasn’t attacking the show. The atmosphere was playful, and she was expected to be shady. It’s silly to be defensive over something so trivial.
People get on platforms like this very message board to be bitchy and negative all the damn time, but somehow it’s always a problem when LuPone does it.

I agree.
On this point, it ties to her comments on Bway turning into Vegas or a themepark. She's right. On the sake of the art, Phantom taking up a theatre isn't good nor necessary. Will tourists get to keep seeing it, yes, but the switch from tourists being 30% of Bway audiences 15 years ago to 70% now has had a marked difference on what's produced.
Y'all can make it personal about her, but she's not alone in her belief.
