A bunch of idiots held up signs protesting the Humane Society and booed Bernadette Peters and Bill Berloni. Because people are a$$holes and want to ruin nice things.
I'm as confused as you guys, but there's obviously some missing information here. People sometime protest for stupid reasons, but people don't protest for NO reason at all.
It was really strange. It was all about the Humane Society warehousing dogs. The protesters were scattered in the front third of the crowd. Things got loud with certain protesters and the people around them. There was lots of yelling and people filming each other. Signs were torn and it was messy. Bernadette asked Sutton, who was visibly upset, to sing a song to her dog, Mabel, who was on stage at the time. Sutton declined so they brought Kerry Butler and the Beetlejuice people to the stage. One guy with a bullhorn was escorted out past me. Other protesters tried to distribute information as they left. As I walked to the subway after the event, they were gathered outside of Ben & Jerry’s. Just a surreal moment.
while i would NEVER condone anyone heckling Bernadette just on GP, let alone because of her decades-long advocacy on behalf of animals, reading that FB post it does seem like HSNY has some questions to answer. There well may be answers, but the questions seem legit.
they're mad because the Human Society has been closed to the public because of Covid and other reasons. But this is how protests falter and lose support, by not choosing their targets with precision. As far as I can tell, Broadway Barks has nothing to do with the situation.
