Interestingly enough, no 'Atlantic City.'

That has to be a mistake....right?
“The Courtship” and the Entr’Acte are also missing from the track list.

Those, I do find to be a little more understandable. Not the case with 'Atlantic City.'

I do agree; I’m just being greedy and want every note of this show recorded.

slightly disappointed if this means we're missing Joshua Henry's cooing to Coalhouse Jr! It was one of my favorite moments of this revival — watching him cross to the crib and pack a full arc of discovering, hesitating, and accepting fatherhood in just a few lines of music.
Two discs and still not enough room for "Atlantic City?" That's unforgivable. Honestly just a single disc with the main songs would have been fine with me since the OBC is so definitive but "Atlantic City" would be a main song to me.
I know "The Courtship" isn't a traditional song per se but it's one of my favorite moments of the show so I'll miss that most. Odd but we always will have an unusually complete original recording.

Seconded!! My favorite moment in the show by far!

Why is everyone suddenly going to bat for Atlantic City? Yall know the song gets interrupted in the show, right?

First listen of Joshua Henry (Coalhouse Walker, Jr.) and Nichelle Lewis (Sarah) performing "Wheels of a Dream":
It's nice to hear it with a little bit more balance between the performers.

One of these days, his head is just gonna pop right off. What a powerful instrument.

He sounds great. I think she sounds just above passable.

It's his. They sound incredible.

I saw the show twice at Lincoln Center - once right after opening and then again a month later. The second time I felt the sound had finally gotten the balance right and it sounded as good if not better than the recording video. I guess I'm in the minority but I really love Nichelle's performance. I think her lighter more modern sound is so interesting to hear with Joshua Henry's operatic voice. It's unexpected but I think they sound beautiful together. It couldn't be more different than Brian Stokes Mitchell and Audra's version but it still works for me.
It's finally ours to stream!
Fire away, everyone.

Before I give my thoughts on this I thought I should share a little story. Growing up in Bermuda, I didn’t really have that much exposure to musical theatre, so the only exposure I really got was from the cd cast recordings that my parents had kept for many years. There were two I remember listening to constantly one of them was Wicked and the other was Ragtime.
I know everyone’s very familiar with the original Broadway cast recording but I must admit (and this might be a hot take for a lot of people) this is actually better than the original. Everyone is singing their faces off, especially Joshua Henry (are we really that surprised though because he’s imo one of the best musical theatre voices of the past 50 years). I also think the orchestrations sound much more clearer than ever in ways I don’t think most people could hear on the OBCR.
My parents introduced me to musical theatre through the original Ragtime cast recording, and maybe if I ever have my own kid I’ll play this new Broadway cast recording.

I have to disagree with this sentiment. The original Broadway cast recording of Ragtime is one of the best cast albums of all time. It’s one of the best representations of the cast album genre of music. This new recording is a glorified highlights album with a mixed bag cast.

Agreed. The 2025 cast recording is abs subpar compared to OBC recording

Like I said this will be a hot take for a lot of people.
Not finding it on Apple Music yet. Tap tap tap.
It's fantastic. Of course the original recording will never be topped but this is a damn good recording of a damn good score. I will be having this version of Till We Reach That Day on constant repeat.
I'm so thrilled the production is seeing such success and I hope it continues through 2026 -- we really need this show in this anniversary year. This truly is the rare kind of score that will be listened to and revered many long decades from now.
