It's fantastic. Of course the original recording will never be topped but this is a damn good recording of a damn good score. I will be having this version of Till We Reach That Day on constant repeat.
I'm so thrilled the production is seeing such success and I hope it continues through 2026 -- we really need this show in this anniversary year. This truly is the rare kind of score that will be listened to and revered many long decades from now.

And the rare kind of score that must be passed down for generations to come! I’m especially surprised by how good Caissie Levy sounds here

It was jarring at first listening to this having been obsessed with the OBC, but I love how different these performers sound. It would be pretty boring if we had imitations of Stokes, Audra, Peter Friedman, and Marin. As cheesy as it sounds, this production and album truly feels like a Ragtime for our times and contemporary, which I think is why revivals should exist in the first place.

I believe Stephen Sondheim once said “What keeps the theatre alive is reinterpretation. The thing that essentially is different between let's say theater and movies or television is that it's changeable. Each generation brings new ways of looking at a play."
I was lucky enough to attend the first preview of Ragtime at Lincoln Center, and hearing these voices and this score (on top of this book by Terrence McNally) hits hard in 2026 just as it first did back in 1998, and you can really feel that contemporary reinterpretation through this new cast recording
The music gods really decided to spoil us today between this and new Bruno Mars.
An absolutely gorgeous recording of a gorgeous and gorgeously sung score. Happy Friday, y’all.

Immediately started listening once I was up this morning. That orchestra is stunning. Joshua Henry's voice is haunting and gorgeous. Will be listening on repeat all weekend.

It is a solid album, though for me it will not replace the original cast album. The mixing feels a little off, the orchestra sounds muffled at times and the voices almost too clear and loud compared to them.
Still, the performances are by and large well-captured (especially Brandon Uranowitz). And it's nice to have another cast album of this show.

A little soulless compared the OBCR (which I would argue is one of the finest cast recordings ever made)

One of my favorite tracks so far…I was very surprised by how good Caissie Levy sounds, I saw her both at Encores! (the day after the election) & Lincoln Center (first preview) and her vocals have greatly improved. And you can truly hear them in this recording. She might not be Marin Mazzie, but then again nobody can truly top what she did with Mother. Also Brandon Uranowitz was truly born to play Tateh and his performance of this song is proof.

I really think Caissie Levy is on par with Joshua Henry as far her performance as Mother goes. It's really such a different take than Marin, but still stunning. Hoping she gets some well deserved award recognition this season, for not only this role, but her years and years of consistently good performances.
I only got 5 tracks in before I had to go be productive, but the early tracks sound fantastic. The album, like the sound design of the show, highlights new licks in the orchestration (whether they're actually new or just being mixed differently than prior productions I don't know). Excited to hear the rest.

After listening to this recording, I'm having a difficult time believing that Nicholas Christopher is giving a better performance than Joshua Henry is in this show.

Well I’ve seen Chess twice, and I seriously cannot wait for everyone to hear the vocal masterclass Nicholas Christopher gives not just during “Anthem” but also for “Endgame,” trust me that is gonna be on my Spotify Wrapped next year. How that cast recording pairs up with Ragtime’s remains to be heard tho. Well just have to wait in the meantime…
As a fan of this revival and longtime fan of the original cast album, I couldn't be happier with this one. Sure, I would've appreciated it if it included more material (especially 'Atlantic City'), but it's hard to argue with how well produced everything else is.
Wow, wow, wow.
This obviously won't surpass the immaculate OBCR, but this serves as a wonderful complement. Ahrens & Flaherty have nailed the art of the final sustained money note.
Praise all around for this entire cast. Joshua Henry's voice is a cannon that beautifully straddles the line between pop and classical. Who else can't wait to see him win his long overdue Tony?
Excellent mixing and production. The choral singing is out of this world.
I need to run to see this one.

Highlights for me so far this season are Anthem and anytime Josuha Henry opened his mouth in Ragtime

What did you use to listen to it? I’m not hearing it. The chorus on the entire album and the orchestra at times lack clarity.

Spotify. We got different ears, I guess.
