DAME & Marquise- It's not the lack of nominations that bothers me. Like I said before, I had kind of expected it. It's the fact that some people have to rub it in the faces of those of us who love the film no matter what anyone else says.

But honestly, The Producers (the musical version) translated HORRIBLY to screen. I don't see how it got any nominations.

The Producers translated beautifully to the screen. I have now seen it twice. ( I know.. i was not going to post here anymore.. i know) And as for your statement saying the nom commitee must all be homophobic republicans... HELLO! BROKE BACK MOUNTAIN!
Rent was just bad.

alli,
now you're just grasping at straws. BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, a movie with gay themes received several nominations.

I'm not.
But, if you are, don't let it get to you. Check out some of their other nominations - some are laughable.

"The long-awaited film version of writer Annie Proulx's cowboy love story, Brokeback Mountain , opened December 9 to long lines of moviegoers in three cities. By the end of the weekend it had broken box-office records and carried home some of the first major prizes of the year-end season.
Open only in New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles—five theaters total—the Focus Features film raked in more than half a million dollars, for an average of $109,000 per location, the highest per-screen average for any movie released in 2005."

Rent's appeal internationally is more in question here than Hollywood's with these nominations.
EDIT: And Margo -- It's not really hard to set a "per screen average" record if you only open on 5 screens. The press and PR Wagons are jumping on this (rightfully)... but it's not remotely a reflection of what it will do nationwide. I still have high hopes though.

And honestly, I don't see it doing so well, especially, in the red states.

That's up for discussion. Besides, the Globe nominations were kind of off this year. I'm not disappointed that it was snubbed. The talented ensemble was recognized by the critics, and that is what's important.
