Ragtime at City Centers

In solidarity with the "Titanic at City Centers" post ..
Coalhouse (Henry), Mother (Levy) & Tateh (Uranowitz) are confirmed. Anyone have info on who else might be joining? Unfortunate that deBessonet's usual dull direction will be attached to this ... but a great cast can hopefully bring it to its highest potential.
The show/concert seems to be selling well by title alone. https://www.nycitycenter.org/pdps/2024-2025/ragtime/

I thought people were generally thrilled with how she handled Into the Woods, no?

^ You’re correct. Her direction of Into the Woods was astounding, especially for a piece that was originally designed for a couple of weeks.

It was luck in the availability of high profile casting. A rarity when covid was just ending and actors were all without work or schedules/conflicts.
The production itself was devoid of creativity, interesting staging & the magic of WOODS. The top-tier cast & orchestra were great despite an otherwise bland production. Newer / more known titles have helped City Center draw crowds and high profile actors since.

Would love to hear Jeannette Bayardelle sing Sarah's Friend.

Also looking forward to see who else joins this cast. City Center has been on a roll lately.

I liked her WOODS. The material is strong enough to thrive under that level of minimalism.
Looking forward to her RAGTIME, but I still wish we could have a revival on the New York stage helmed by a Black director.
and for the love of god drop the S from City Center!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ellenore Scott (The Lonely Few, Titanique, Funny Girl) has announced that she will be choreographing.

Taking it will a grain of salt but Joy Woods reposted it to her instagram story

I know there have already been rumors of Joy as Sarah, but Joy and Ellenore are besties so I wouldn't read into that.

Does anybody know if they’re doing this with the original orchestration or will it be reduced?

Encores started as a way to highlight scores and orchestrations. Typically they beef up the orchestra size, not reduce it. I imagine at least the original — probably larger.

Did I miss something obvious? Taub being cast seems like a backdoor announcement of Suffs closing. Unless she's just taking a couple of weeks off.

So does this mean The Connector will transfer in the spring or summer if Ross is still attached to lead it still?

Actors take time off from their currently running shows to appear in an Encores concert all the time. She’s in a particularly good spot to do it, since she already has a standby and understudies. Joy Woods will also, theoretically, be taking time off if The Notebook is still running.

No announcement of SUFFS or NOTEBOOK closing. Both are probably just taking 2 weeks off for this. Taub seems way overqualified for Emma Goldman, but she'll be good!

The Connector isn’t transferring.
and re: Suffs- Emma Goldman is not a large role. Taub will only need to take the weeks of Ragtime off.

Is a CONNECTOR transfer in the works or is that just your speculation? That show seems D.O.A. after its MCC run. License it out, don't waste money on a transfer.

Judy Kaye was also way overqualified for the role. But it really can be a standout role. Plus being a part of this production in any way will be bragging rights for years to come. Shaina is IDEAL for the role.
