I can't stand the extended version that's in the show, with the spelling and whatever else. I like the original. I hope they do something else, though I can see why they'd pick it -- it's so recognizable.
The london production performed "Practically Perfect" on a few tv appearances so I wouldn't rule that out either. I personally love the music in the West End/Broadway production!
I re-watched the segment from Grey Gardens again , this time I listened to the interview part- Thank God ! Neil Patrick Harris provided some insight about the show, and kept Kelly Ripa from speaking...God Bless her heart.. I think someone said earlier...she needs to get some writers... all she says is (to Christine & Erin) .... "to be able to what to do what can you do is a gift ".. Did she just said that to all the past guests this week !! pls get her a writer or something ??? at least she acknowledged that Christine has to have her Tony Speech ready...As if ... it was a suprise prediction !!! -- my advice .. when it comes to Grey Gardens ... Please let a GAY MAN do the interview-j*
^HA! Agreed! And she tried to sound like she knew about Broadway this morning by talking about Pirate Queen and Xanadu, but it wasn't working so much. I love her, but Broadway is just not her topic.
I went to dvr the early show for Raul's performance and in the Philly area they had something else on...what the hell? so if anyone has it please please please post it

I happened to watch this morning. Not because I have any particular attachment to Grey Gardens, but because I was up and unless you're a preschooler, there's nothing interesting on at 9am. I think Neil Patrick Harris makes this show (namely Kelly) tolerable. How did he get the sub gig in the first place? At first I wondered if it was some sort of cross promotion, but seeing as his only big project is How I Met Your Mother and that's on CBS, that didn't make sense. Whatever the production motivation, he does a really good job.
I haven't seen Grey Gardens, but I couldn't help but wonder if this was really the best number to appeal to a wide audience. But NPH (obviously not Kelly) made the point of namedropping Jackie O quite a few times. Every WASP wife in America will be tempted to see it now, just because of that connection.

knowing how
I just want to thank NPH for bringing some actual Broadway insight into the show. Oh, and he was hilarious. If he was ever the host of a show, I would watch it religiously.
That being said, the Grey Gardens performance was good, not as awkward as the rest of the performances this week have been.
I know this is off topic, but since Em was asking about Raul's performance on the Early Show I thought I'd post the link here. The video is up on the front page of their website, you just have to scroll down a little bit.
wow, that was a really good kind of summary about the documentary and show by Neil Patrick Harris. SOMEBODY knew what he was talking about :P (Kelly...)
and i think that was a really sweet performance by Erin and Christine (love that song), and i think it was the best one so far this week.
hope this brings in some business, along with the Tonys. and again, i thought that was an awesome introduction to the show by Neil Patrick Harris, haha.

I just watched the Grey Gardens performance. It was absolutley adorable.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
"This table, he is over one hundred years old. If I could, I would take an old gramophone needle and run it along the surface of the wood. To hear the music of the voices. All that was said." - Doug Wright, I Am My Own Wife
"I (sort of) attended the show this morning. Got up at 5 to be there by 6 for standby. Got number 8 and they let in 7. The lady told us to come back for the second show, but since we were there only to see GG, we told her that and she snuck us in for the GG segment, which was very nice. They looked adorable in person!"
Do they tape several shows at once? I'm clueless about how these talk shows are taped so was wondering (re second show)
Good for Neil being such a fan of GG though since nearly all he said was how hysterical he found the documentary (hysterical??) and that he was worried the stage version might eb like a bad SNL skit I have to wonder if audience members won't think that it's a rollicking, funny musical
Yeah, the Pirate Queen was the center of a fairly longish discussion about Broadway. I was amused that he noted the 18 million dollar loss so brazenly when discussing it.
I never intended to watch today, but it was on while I made breakfast with my mother (who watches this show religiously). The whole Mary Poppins performance struck me as boring and awkward. I could see being charmed by Gavin Lee, though.
TGIF - "Mary Poppins" performing the same old.. Supercalifra...with the entire cast. Let me say the following things: 1. If I see this number perform once more, I would really puke. ( This number was performed in the Today Show, CBS, The View...and probaby the TONYS this Sunday- I was hoping for Gavin Lee's Step in Time)
2. Kelly Ripa- Why do you keep saying? I hope you prepare your Tonys acceptance speech.. That was cute with Christine Ebersole yesterday but with Gavin Lee, It's good that Gavin told her.. you know.. I'm not going to win ! Kelly - youre so cute- but pls get some writers and leave the Broadway interview to a gay man.
3. Is this number LIVE at all ? though I noticed theyre running out of breath bec. of the dancing...but gee.. look at those kids when they sing the song ! soo lipsynch same with Ashley Brown
4. I wish Live with Regis & Kelly could have asked 110 in the Shade to perform instead of old tired "Mary Poppins" ( i know theyre going with the new musical) but with the same sh*t theyre doing- it feels like its getting OLD ALREADY/ Besides I would love to see Audra perform again but this time in a costume.
well i've never seen mary poppins and i watched the performance this morning and I actually thought it was really cool... and I'm not a big disney fan really. But Gavin Lee was just SO cute! On another note, Kelly shouted "watch the tonys!" at the end of the show... I thought that was nice!
