Patti her self offered to talk with those posters that she called out on her blog. I believe only one took her up on her offer and the others simply ignored the request.
She did not call me out, so that doesn't pertain to me.
My request was that she come HERE and offer us ALL an apology.

I think a few people don't seem to understand that Patti Murin actually insulted the entire board while using a few (largely poorly chosen) examples, but okay.
And now I have this Hamilton lyric running through my mind:
John Adams?! I know him That can’t be That’s that little guy who spoke to me All those years ago What was it, eighty-five? That poor man, they’re gonna eat him alive! Oceans rise Empires fall Next to Washington, they all look small All alone Watch them run They will tear each other into pieces Jesus Christ, this will be fun!
Da da da dat da dat da da da da ya da Da da da dat dat da ya daaaaa!
“President John Adams” Good Luck

^^^^^ I'm not presuming to speak for Rob or the moderators, but I know other boards that have had problems with criminal behaviors such as stalking, threats of violence, etc. It isn't just a question of copyright violations.
(Sorry, Alan. I see you were posting at about the same time and said it better.)
I'm not happy about any of this and I greatly fear this board will change as a consequence. Compared to a "true crime" board where I've been a member for 20 years, I have greatly appreciated the light hand with which BWW's boards have been moderated in the past.
Sure, I've been the target of personal attacks and I've also been guilty of the same myself. But by and large, those arguments calmed down quickly and we all moved on. As someone wrote 30 pages ago, the threads here tend to be self-correcting.

But as for Murin (who?), Pasquale (love his voice), et al., it's a rare actor who is both good at his/her craft AND quick to see multiple perspectives or "all sides" of an issue. An actor's JOB is to view a play through the narrow perspective of one character and to do so with intense focus. It is one profession where even a little narcissism goes a long, long way. (There are exceptions and I apologize to them all for generalizing here.)
So I don't expect to see a lot of apologies from actors. They are merely arguing for their greatest creations, i.e., themselves. For the record, I actually love actors and "many of my best friends are...", etc. and so forth. It's because I have so many actor friends that I am able to make the foregoing observation.
I understand and go with what Gaveston just said. Not only do I have actor friends, but I was one for a while, to the extent of reading some reviews. The bottom line is freedom of speech, and that overrides all other issues. As has been said before, if you choose this profession, this is what comes with it. The old hackneyed expression "If you can't stand the heat......"

Really? Even when I was moderating a boardhost (boardhost!) board back in the early 2000s, we had IP tracking features. We could hide them from the non-mods if we wanted, but the feature was always there.

IP tracking devices are definitely not new. Now I recall I was 15 or 16 when a warning went up on one site I visited because they caught some guy who was trying to lure young girls. It was along the lines of us also getting in trouble if it was found out we got together with the guy outside of there because he wasn't a good person.

"To me - that's not entirely the same as her asking for them to be shut down completely. I admit that her blog post rides the fence because she goes between the two ideas."
Honestly, I think that initial post was kind of poorly articulated. I read the whole thing. To me it seems like she just wanted to vent about comments here that she felt were unwarranted and cruel. I don't think all her criticisms and the way she wanted to contextualize the issue in a larger world of bullying and toxic message board culture were completely valid but it was an easy position for her to defend. I don't think the solutions she proposed were completely thought out because it wouldn't really make a meaningful change or resolve anything to move the boards away from the main page. Out of this confusion, many people have piled on. I've read many of the comments on both sides of the issue (almost all the comments here as well as tweets and articles coming from the outside). Again, I think there's an instinct to generalize and talk about larger conversations about bullying and trolls and basically things that are not actually at play.
When I read Murin's post, it seemed perfectly clear to me that she was addressing the trolls, not those of us who are thoughtful posters. And I agree - trolls be gone!

I took that offer because she had no clue that it was someone she actually knew, met and interacted with for almost 2 years that was behind that post(which was an honest mistake from a source I thought was legit but obviously wasn't). I wasn't going to sit there having her or anyone else on here, Facebook, Twitter, her blog, think I was a faceless, heartless troll. So I owned up to my mistake and did it publicly on Facebook and Twitter. She talks about it/me on the podcast.
I wish others would have done the same instead of continuing to b*tch about it and her on here for the past 4 days.
this post might get unfairly deleted but i just want to mention... to those like craig who claim not much will change... that A LOT has changed since Patti cried and whined about the board. a post of mine from yesterday, pointing out Margo's hypocrisy and bullying, was deleted under the auspices that it was a "personal attack." HOW is that a personal attack?!?! would my post, simply pointing out a factual observation, be deleted before this whole debacle? no. it would not have. and i even received a warning for it. rob -- you are going to lose more than just two or three posters if your moderators continue to unfairly and unevenly limit the posting on here. you will lose traffic and lose advertising revenue. as a longtime fan and relatively new member, i encourage you to carve out an even more transparent and fair policy. all moderators should be identified and known to the board members who are being held accountable by them. end the faceless, nameless oppression... please!!!!
As indicated earlier in the thread by Rob - moderators now have a BWW Staff (or something like that) text under then name when posting in the forum. If you mean that Rob should list moderators at the top of the forum page - that's not a horrible idea.

thanks for agreeing, craig. that was what i partially meant as many, many other message boards and forums do that! i was also referring to the private messages and warnings we receive. they are from 'Moderator' but i have no clue who that is. i guess it just makes me feel uneasy but thats a personal opinion. at every other site you know who the moderators are and they actually engage with the posters in threads. they're members of the community... not just faceless, nameless staff members. that is all i am saying

Totally with you there.

Kad, I understand that IP tracking is standard (even people with blogs use it) but I'm talking about the reserved right in the "Abuse Guidelines" to turn posters in to "local law enforcement" for breaking "Federal law".
That's very punitive and vague language to use in any kind of guideline.
After a while, this controversy will settle down. Both sides have had a chance to express their opinions. The changes brought on by Rob/BWW are good and necessary.

I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)
