It really should have. This is one of the most groundbreaking revivals of all time. People like Jamie Lloyd have tinkered around with re-inventions of shows but this show was a true re-invention. People kept saying “it’s still cats” but it really wasn’t. They barely changed a word or note but it was basically a completely new book in terms of interpretation. Every character, every song, every moment was different. And I think it’s the best that can ever be done for the material. It solves the number #1 issue with the show that people often just can’t buy it. Now it has fleshed out characters and a vibe that suits the strange but fun material.
That dancing is also so addictive.
Ragtime was so boring and pedestrian in comparison.
It’s a shame it didn’t take off. But everyone should be so, so, proud.

My sentiments exactly. To me, it felt like when Crash won the Oscar instead of Brokeback Mountain.

This is not a show you can just plug Drag Race queens into. There aren’t many who have the actual ballroom experience or ability this show requires.

The only ones I know are Aja Mugler (formerly LaBeija), Mariah Paris Balenciaga, Olivia Lux (Mugler) and and Carmen Carrera (Mizrahi).
Of them, Aja would be most recognizable to current audiences and they were also a contestant on LEGENDARY (with LaBeija)

Given the circumstances members of the LBGTQ+ community currently find themselves in (especially under the current administration's thumbs), I still believe it would be an appropriate gesture for the RUG to find a way give back to the community that singularly made the show so successful.
This show isn't like "Hadestown", where the culture incorporated into the show isn't a maligned and suffering community. It seems really boujee to profit from a culture that is currently struggling, without an intention to say, "thank you".

I was looking to buy for another ticket before it ‘closes’, when I saw performances listed through October- at least, so one of us is wrong about the show closing and I don’t think it’s me!

The original post notes that they haven't cancelled any dates yet, and their speculation is based on other factors. You're the third or fourth person who seems to have missed that. (That sounds harsher than I'm intending it, I think!)

Thank you. I’ve been struggling how to phrase this without sounding defensive.

Really really liked this production.
I think this had a momentum problem of waiting too long after the initial PAC run. Had it opened within 9 months of the PAC production closing, this might have had a different result (even if it won no major Tonys).
And I don’t think a Best Revival win would have helped its numbers substantially.

Not sure why anyone would think that future performances being on sale means anything regarding closing. They obviously wouldn’t take down any performances before they’re ready to announce closing. Those performances would likely go off-sale right at about the time the announcement is made.
