This is such a dreadful idea. Watch the show on Apple. The cast will never be better than that and it was still underwhelming.
I loved the show, was sad it didn't get a S3. But no way this works on Bway. They couldn't get enough people to watch when all they had to do was turn on their TV's.....they aren't going to get folks to fork over big bucks for it.

It is positively shocking to me that someone would think this could be a hit on Broadway. Perhaps if it were brilliant (no evidence to suggest that), off-Broadway.
I love the theatre, have been seeing shows for a thousand years, and I could not get through 3 episodes of this on streaming. I would never have considered seeing this in DC, even if I lived in the Watergate, which is super close to the Kennedy Center.
I found myself constantly cringing at every turn. If someone would actually want to invest in this, I would give their name to the government, to explore a possible money laundering scheme.
It was cute but low rated on Apple and barely talked about at Kennedy Center. This would be such a giant waste of money for all involved if they are seriously considering Broadway.
First preview April 4, opening night April 20, thru September 6 at the Nederlander Theatre.

Well that’s just flushing money away. Six month run, I don’t want to be a naysayer but if this finishes four weeks I’ll be amazed. It’s just like Smash, no one asked for this!
I guess they’re counting on the sub rights paying off in the long run. Easier to sell if they can say it was “on Broadway” once upon a time.
Still, how long to recoup a capitalization that they’ll somehow find a way to amount to $15 million or so?

It’s giving Forbidden Broadway announcing a Broadway run.

Well…at least by announcing a limited run, they could potentially drive up demand - how little it may be.

I prefer Forbidden Broadway parodies over SCHMIGADOON parodies. At least FB uses the original melodies and has funny lyrics….here the melodies are changed 15% to qualify as new compositions, and the lyrics are not terribly clever.
The smart thing to do would be capitalizing Broadway & Tour at the same time if they want any chance of recoupment.
Maybe it’ll be better on stage…

I saw this at the Kennedy Center and while I had a good time, it definitely needed some work and really didn't stand separately from the TV show. The opening was rushed and we never had any concept of who Josh and Melissa were or why we should root for them. It really relied on knowledge from the show. The pacing didn't quite work either.
Again, I had fun, but unless they did some serious rewrites I just don't think this will work on Broadway.
I would really, really love a Season 3 of the show, though.

I actually snorted. I bow down before you!
I really have to wonder sometimes what these producers are thinking. Do some of them just want the tax write-off? I rarely subscribe to the “nobody asked for this” mindset because I believe there’s room for all sorts of things on Broadway, but this just reeks of being D.O.A. (especially after Smash bombed).

This. The songs are all borderline plagiarism.

”Sold out”? Surely they mean comped out.
This will probably give the show the exposure it needs to get a new cast album (even though the score seems virtually the same from the series) and/or boost a licensing deal, and maybe a third season of the show, as is their hope.
Oh, and y'all need to chill out over a limited run (which was a producer's decision, mind you... as opposed to an open-ended run, which most of y'all would have been even more cynical about anyway) of only the THIRD officially-announced new musical for this season. Can't even have a frothy new musical comedy that some people may actually wanna see onstage...

Limited run was not their choice. There is a revival musical booked in the fall.

This is completely unsubstantiated and I don't even know if such a thing is in the works. But...
RENT 30th anniversary production?

That may exist but that is not what is booked.
Tickets will go on sale to the public on October 15.

What made the tv show fun was it was visually surreal. Overtly theatrical with fake skies and high key lighting. And they were able to play with realism vs artifice. A grounded forest and suddenly- fake trees.
On stage, I already expect artifice so meh.
This will do gangbusters in licensing and might even do ok on tour with subscription houses and guarantees.
I just don't understand the strategy behind a Broadway run (aside from "moneybags producers are behind it and Lorne Michaels is powerful and wants this to happen.") These people are smart enough to know that losing $15-20 mil is a tall order to recoup in licensing over the next 20 years.
And I have a hard time seeing actual stars wanting to do this (even people who owe a favor to Lorne).
