Does Scarlett ever come out the stage door? I got a poster signed after one of the first previews by the entire cast (except her since she signed for 3 people and jumped in the car) and have tried several times since and she never comes out when I'm there. Does she just never stage door at all now?
That's strange. I saw VIEW several times and she came out after each one. I saw the first preview of CAT and she signed as well. I was hoping to go back and get a poster signed since they didn't have posters at the first preview.
She hasn't been coming out lately. I've been there 10 times in the last month to get her and haven't gotten her. She was sick a few weeks ago and was sneaking out. She was supposed to come out on Friday with Ben, but she went out the front with Prince who was there visiting her. The door man says she usually comes out 90% of the time, which has not been true lately. Ben lately has also been sneaking out a lot.
I was there on 2/22 and none of the cast came out. Doorman said there was some kind of Q&A going on. Scarlett was on Jimmy Fallon that night, but it was recorded before our show.
I was staying right by the theater so I tried after the matinee on 2/23. It was drizzling and, again, nobody came out. I tried again that evening after seeing another show nearby and finally got to see Debra Monk, Emily Bergl and Ciaran Hinds. Mr. Hinds is who I was really wanting to see, so I was happy.
Scarlett was a no show that night as well. There were quite a few waiting just to see her and they were disappointed when it was announced she had already left the building. I admit that it was very cold on those dates. That could have been the reason. I didn't get Ben's autograph, but I did see him going into the theater for the matinee. However, my son was a bit disappointed that I didn't get The Black Widow's autograph.
I was walking by the theatre tonight Sunday March 3rd just before the show ended. I waited to see if Scarlett would come out and sign. Only Ciaran Hinds and Debra Monk stopped to sign, Benjamin Walker did not exit via the stage door. Scarlett sneaked out via the main door, I think she actually ran out, two girls in the stage door line saw her and then chased after her limo down the street. Not sure if she rolled down the window to sign, when caught at the traffic lights.
"She used the main door to avoid interacting with her fans waiting for her at the stage door, hence the term sneaking."
That's not "sneaking". She "left through the main door because she did not feel like signing", period.
Can we stop ascribing negative words and feelings to people who don't choose to engage in the stage door stuff? Sure, it's nice when people do, but it's hardly part of the job description. Geez. Entitled much?
What is the definition of sneaking? I thought it was acting in a stealthy way. She sneaked out the main door to avoid her fans waiting for her at the stage door. She used stealth tactics then.
I am in the same camp as you, in the opinion that no one should feel any obligation to an autograph or anything for that matter after the show.
I didn't mind waiting I spoke to Ciaran Hinds and Debra Monk and they signed my playbill. And when told that no one else was coming out, I said thank you and walked away. Not upset whatsoever, my original post was just some info and some observations. I am a bit of a nerdy collector of signed playbills from shows that I have enjoyed, so if i'm going to another show, I may put my Cat on a hot tin roof playbill in my bag and try again when in the area.
Thanks for clarifying, Godolphin. People on this board can get so bitter sometimes about people who don't sign autographs or don't stage door every night that it can be a little hard to take. I don't know if it's stealthy, to me it just seems pretty clear she has no interest in signing and only does so randomly and when it doesn't inconvenience her. Unfortunate for those who do want to grab a signature (which I don't begrudge anybody, signed things look lovely when displayed), but it is her right to do as she will!
Hopefully anyone seeking her autograph will be able to catch her on a day when she's in the mood.
It would be nice if she signed but I don't hold it against her if she doesn't and don't think it means she's not "fan-friendly". Given her popularity as a film star, she is a chased by paparazzi 24/7 wherever she goes and has probably settled into a routine of getting into and out of places with as little fanfare as possible. Can't say I blame her.
Perhaps she has a persistent fan or two who were showing up a little too often or acting a little strangely and it made her not want to do the stage door thing. People with that level of celebrity and who are young and attractive can attract some fans who might go a little overboard.
Reminds me of getting Zachary Quinto's autograph after a performance of "The Glass Menagerie" at the A.R.T. He came out of the building through a side door, and when I asked him to sign a poster, he said, "Yeah, of course, but hurry, they're coming," as he looked at a group of people exiting from the main entrance, clearly headed in his direction. He was really nice and wound up taking pics/signing with those fans. But he was probably in a rush as it was a Saturday, and the matinee had just finished.
I went to the Sat matinee performance this past weekend. Broadway Cares is doing there thing again so I don't expect her coming out at all at least to sign. I don't stage door matinees so I didn't wait around. I did buy a poster signed by her and the cast for $100, I enjoyed the show a lot so it was worth it than stressing over the stage door.
