What is a Bway song that has significance to you, personally, and why?
My choice would be Seasons of Love. In 2000, my cousin died of cancer and she was only eight. For my 5th grade graduation that year, we sang Seasons Of Love and I would just listen to the words and they were so significant to me on many different levels. It was a VERY hard time in my life and Seasons Of Love helped me through it.
What about you?

Mine would have to be All I Ask Of You. For my girlfriend and I, its considered "our" song lol. I dont know why, but everytime she was upset and I'd play it she'd feel better. Now shes away at college so it means even more to me.
Another would have to be "For Good" because it's the first song I cried during lol
I can't listen to "Make Them Hear You" without crying
For a lot of struggling artists the song would be "What I Did For Love". People who have never seen A Chorus Line (on stage) always think that this song is about a personal relationship but most actors and dancers know that it is about a struggle for their art and what they have gone through (and given up) to get where they are.
Mine is LIFT THE WINGS, from Riverdance - it is my friend's favourite song.
Also, WIND BENEATH MY WINGS, from Beaches. I recorded this for the same friend a while back. She has been my biggest support despite her own problems (she has terminal cancer and her daughter is also ill) so I recorded it as my way of saying "thank you".
"Move On" from Sunday In The Park With George
It helped me alot when I was struggling at boarding school
"corner of the sky" i had a really horrible time fitting in in 8th grade and this song which I sang in elementary school helped me get through it
"for good" - i had a close friend die of cancer this year at 16 and this song always makes me cry because it's just like what I know she would have said to me if we had met one last time. because she would have wanted me to keep living life to the fullest just as she did i'm already tearing just thinking about it::sniff::
"seasons of love" - her favorite song, really she did live like there was "no day but today"
sorry for depressing you - but i hope honesty counts!
"The Origin of Love" from Hedwig and the Angry Inch (not Broadway, but one of the best musicals ever written). It really touched me and encapsulated my idealism and dream for some fated connection with someone.
"Unusual Way" really touched me. I had just come off of a one-night stand that meant more to me than him. I heard that song and it totally encapsulated what I wanted to say to him.
I concur with BlueWizard. I remember sitting in that little crappy Jane Street theater while listening to John Cameron Mitchell sing "Origin of Love" and thinking to myself that I have to find my partner out there so we can attach ourselves back together. :)
LOL, me too MadeOfGold! But sadly (very, very sadly), I never got to see John Cameron Mitchell perform live. (Damn me not living in New York and seeing these breathtaking performances!). The line, "But I could tell by your expression that the pain down in your soul was the same as the one down in mine," really gets me.
Oh BlueWizard that is my FAVORITE line too. And can you imagine the squeeing I did when John Hill and Natalie sang it at Joe's Pub?
It was almost too perfect. :)
And JCM is a God.
'Without You'-RENT. It makes me bawl. I know many people don't like this song and think it's tedious, but I think it's beautiful. It's also become known as my 'trademark' song that I play on the piano, and when I first gathered the courage to play at a reception for about a hundred people, that was the song I played. I think it's especially heartbreaking when it's sung by Karmine Alers.

'the impossible dream' from man of la mancha. this song has told me that you can accomplish whatever you want as long as you try. whenever i thought that i was going to give up, i thought of this song.
'for good' from wicked. i have met so many great people that have changed me for good. i don't know where i would be without them.

No One is Alone...helps me through tough times...sang it for a revue after my parents got divorced.
No More...same
On the Steps of the Palace and Into the Woods Finale...resembles the complications I throw into my life.
Being Alive...bridges the gap between depression and being childlike.
A Weekend in the Country and Thoroughly Modern Millie...make me feel alive and excited.
I would say that "Wishing you were somehow here again" from POTO is pretty significant to me. I can relate to it in a different, yet similar context to that in the show, and I just find it so beautiful, and powerful.
Sunday (Act II Finale)
As soon as I bought the SITPWG DVD I sat down and watched it. The show was progressing and I kept thinking about well it applied to life.. my life, but in less obvious ways. By the time it hit the Act II Finale's Sunday, tears were streaming. I sat in my chair in silence after it finished and knew that it had changed me forever. I've never heard a more compellingly beautiful, emotional piece.
"The Impossible Dream" - first time I heard BSM sing it I cried and still do everytime I listen to the cast recording. It gives me strength when I wanna quit. It reminds me of the day that I began to love broadway as much as I do and began discovering who I really am and want to be.
"Corner of the Sky", because I had a really hard time in 6th grade fitting in because I had just become a Broadway fanatic (which is un-heard of in my school), and I was really overweight, and people would make fun of me, so "Corner of the Sky" made me realize that everyone fits in somewhere.
"Impossible Dream" because it made me remember that I can do anything, even though it may seem impossible. It makes me think that I can do and be anything.
"A Quiet Night at Home" from "Bare" because it hits too close to home.
The first time I heard "For Good" from "Wicked" I cried because it reminded me of my best friend and I's friendship. We've been through a lot, including petty fights over the most ridiculous things but somehow we've always managed to remain as close as ever.
Another song that means a lot to me (and this is weird) is "I Don't Know How to Love Him" from "Jesus Christ Superstar". JCS is my mother's favorite musical and that's her favorite song so we've always had a connection through that song.

If WIND BENEATH MY WINGS is played at MY funeral, I will literally rise from the dead, in the middle of the ceremony and strangle everyone!
I have to second "A Quiet Night at Home", from Bare, because that is basically me. Pathetic, I know.
Also, "I Dreamed a Dream", because it's been my song that I always sing since I was very young, and dreamed of becoming the next broadway star belter.
And then, "Art Is Calling For Me", where I found out I was a soprano. Go figure.
BETTER THAN THAT from Last Five Years...Everytime I listen to this song and especially everytime I sing it, my entire body feels like it is going to explode with emotion...I guess it just hits that place inside of me that wants something more than what is expected...
Also, AWAITING YOU from Myths and Hymns....my favorite line is "maybe in God we trust just a lucky charm, maybe faith is only hoping that we will rise anew" I am always contemplating my own spirituality and this song is so beautiful and encompasses a lot of my thoughts and feelings
"Elaborate Lives" "Easy As Life" d@mn I should "Enchantment Pasing Through" as well all from AIDA. They've all touchded me on a very personal level. I can listen to them over and over and over again.
