We saw both but liked Spamalot more. Wicked was OK but we were not blown away with it. My wife read the book & was somewhat disappointed . We enjoyed it but....
I say spamalot, because I am a hard core rocky horror buff and seeing Tim Curry gave me one serious once in a life time orgasm

SPAMALOT. I loathe Monty Python's Holy Grail, but I found the show entertaining and funny because of its hilarious, but still Monty-Pythonesque, tongue-in-cheek take on generic musicals. (SONG THAT GOES LIKE THIS - REPRISE gets me everytime.)
I honestly feel WICKED has very little artistic merit and doesn't do it's source material justice.
I'm so glad there are some Spamalot people out there. I definatly loved both of them to death and I'm seeing both of them again as their tours come around to Toronto. If i had to pick...
I think Wicked is more enjoyable (to me) story wise, but Spamalot is much better written. I've never understood the craziness surrounding Wicked - the score is average at best, and the lyrics are laughable in many places - I mean creating a pharse "believe'll" just so you have something to rhyme with evil is something a third grader might do. Even I, who is in no way a lyricst, would not do something that is just plain stupid. Aside from a few nice songs, there isn't much there. Spamalot is very creative and very well-written. You can't argue that Spamalot is by far a better musical than Wicked!
"What the hell happened to you? You look like a Make-A-Wish Kid. You know, I just knew you were gonna bring shame on this new family of ours, and it just figures you had to go make yourself over into some heroin-shootin skate board chic on the only day E! could interview you!" - Cherry Cherry, on her daughter Mary Cherry
"You can't argue that Spamalot is by far a better musical than Wicked!"
At least Wicked didn't fall apart and go to sh*t in the second act.
EDIT: Loge, did you mean "You can't DENY that Spamalot is by far a better musical than Wicked!"? just wondering, because that kind of makes me laugh...and not that Wicked is any kind of literary achievement, but I'd also like to know why you find Spamalot to be much better written than Wicked. That also kind of makes me laugh.
