OK, this is adorable. :) (And I THOUGHT Stanley was part Asian!)
My dressing room-mate, the stentorian James Monroe Iglehart (Mitch), a commanding presence with a booming baritone (think Laurence Fishburne or young James Earl Jones), brought me a bouquet of daisies and insisted on giving me the foot massage prescribed by Jared.
Finally, the angelic and sweet-as-honey-voiced Jenni Barber (Olive), took a more traditionalist stand: "Drink some tea and get your ass out on stage. You don't have a singing part. What the F*#k? Have some sack." Mr. Rocca Regrets ... Broadway's Best Remedies

I saw Spelling Bee for the first time on Mother's Day. I loved it. I was actually one of the four audience members they used as volunteers. Boy, that was fun!
Has anyone seen the new SB ads on the taxis in NYC? They say funny things like "verb your enthusiasm" and have pictures of the Original Cast. So far, all I have seen is Logainne, Leaf, and Marcy. Are there others?

answer, and the H in ghost, and the extra A in aardvark, and the T in listen, you could keep saying WHAT but no one would ever hear you because the whole word would be silent."

so CNN.com has a story up on their site right now about Mo Rocca in Spelling Bee, and it just cracked me up because of this part:
For all the open-ended banter with contestants, Rocca also carries the heavy responsibility of making sure none of the audience participants throw off the plot by outspelling the cast members.
The woman compared to Mrs. Doubtfire astonished Rocca by correctly spelling a whaling term of unknown origin, forcing him to call her back immediately. She came close to spelling his next word, an ophthalmological term.
"Believe me," he says. "I'm prepared. I don't anticipate a situation where we're going to be kept there for eight hours."
OMG y'all, can you believe that the audience member spelled caterjunes/ catterjunes/ caterjoones correctly?!? I just love the way that the CNN.com story worked that in there, both as something unusual, and as some type of example of how *Rocca,* and not the book of the show, is the one controlling that and making it happen.
I saw Spelling Bee last year( original cast I might add) and I immediatly fell in love with it. I also saw Wicked while in the city and I must say, Spelling Bee was my fav!!

I saw it for the first time tonight and I didnt know what to expect and I didnt know if I'd like it but I havent laughed that hard in a LONG time. One of the audience members was this kid with a big blonde afro and he was SOO into it. he kept blowing kisses and make gestures for the male cast members to call him when they would stare at him. It was so great. i cant wait to see it again.
Haha, I saw that. Haven't we all, Bruce, haven't we all?
Anyway, Evan O'Dorney is the 2007 National Spelling Champion. I was rooting for Nate (and he got out on coryza! if only he'd seen Spelling Bee, he might have had a chance...), but ah well.
Bumping after a long time (and wow, that looks lame to have me be the past three replies), but I haven't read a thing on this board about Darrell Hammond -- any of you seen him yet? How is he?

I wanted to know, how is Spelling Bee these days? I might be taking a group to see it, but I'd like to know if it's still as good as it was with the original cast (which I saw once). Do they still have that energy? I haven't heard much about them lately!
Hear the words I sing: war's a horrid thing. So, I sing sing sing... Ding a ling a ling.
I love the current cast (who was pretty much my first Spelling Bee cast in SF) and saw the show on B'way in May, but there are plenty of people who think I'm an uneducated, tasteless West Coast plebe for saying that, so FWIW...
