"Tony Kushner was there. He wrote "Lincoln, and some other stuff". He has never heard of "Angels in America"? That just kinda caught my attention for some reason!

Interesting he mentioned how the cast had earpieces to listen to music as they sang while filming. Does this mean they sung live?
I’ve since let go the notion that actors know everything about their industry. Heck, even Neil Patrick Harris calls cast recordings “soundtracks.” Even Barbra Streisand had no idea who Fanny Brice was when she starred in FUNNY GIRL. She has said that it wasn’t until after she finished her run in the show did she first see her films, listen to her recordings, etc.

I'm sure they sang live
If it is live singing, I hope this method turns out well in everyone's favor. It can turn out really good or really rough depending on how it's used.

Ansel Elgort is trending on Twitter and for all the wrong reasons:

Oh how disappointing. Is it too late to film Lucas hedges or timothee chalamet over Ansel?
Probably. But I would love to see Timothee Chalamet play Henrik in a new film version of A Little Night Music.
Just when you thought the film version would be free of the same controversy the latest revival had...

How do you think it'll all pan out?
Much like most unfounded allegations created for Twitter, it will fade away. People are not seeing this movie for Ansel anyways.
Agreed, I'm seeing this movie for Spielberg's direction, Kushner's screenplay, the production/costume designs, David Newman's music supervision/arrangements, Peck's choreography, the featured cast and Zegler's debut. Plus other forums are wondering if this controversy will cause re-shoots ala Spacey replaced by Plummer, which at this point is unrealistic given the current circumstances.
I think Disney/20th Century Studios may release the film as is and "bite the bullet" as it's sometimes said.

I’d prefer more proven singers than Hedges or Chalamet (who I think is too scrawny looking to make it seem like he could go toe to toe with David Alvarez). Honestly, if they go through with reshoots, the acceptance towards Zegler just proves to me that they can get away with an unknown as Tony.
Lol. None of that will be happening. I think it's really funny that a person can make up a story about anyone in the world and some people (on this board) are naive enough to automatically believe it and demand that person be "canceled".
Pathetic.

God, I hope not. I think Les Miz showed that this isn't a real solution to the problem. If you sing take after take after take, you wear your voice out. Singing for various takes isn't the same as singing nightly for a performance. I think Chicago demonstrated how effectively lip-synching could be done: not only was the sound perfectly in synch, but the sound design insured there was no discrepancy in sound quality between pre-recorded song and on-set recorded dialogue. It was very smooth and provided the illusion that the performers were singing live.
That's a good point. Also there was a brief secret b-footage of the number "Maria" and it most definitely didn't sound live on the set, so I am very confused by the "ear-piece" thing. Hopefully someone who worked on the film's sound can confirm and clarify what method was used.

Due to many exterior locations being on public streets, certain musical numbers were not permitted to blast playback music during certain hours as to not affect businesses and the neighborhoods, hence the earbuds. They were permitted during certain hours.

Oh, ok! So they lipsynched to already prerecorded tracks that could not be blasted while filming during certain hours?
Also, ugh damn it Ansel!! This boy is about to get this movie cancelled. Unless they reshoot or change the actor playing Tony digitally, there will always be controversy surrounding this film. They have no choice.

Just do some reshoots with Christopher Plummer. Boom, instant Oscar nominee
Thanks BrodyFosse123 for that explanation.

Do you think Spielberg will call everyone in for reshoots as soon as its safe, just to replace Ansel?
And push back the movie two years? What would be the point when the movie is already 100% done?
