Her statement on Rudin:
I didnt feel like I needed to post [about] itI didnt feel like that was something I needed to do because it becomes like a reactionary thing. For me it was I needed to take a step back and make sure the decision I made was mine and not based on the noise of social media. Thats who I am, thats my integrity, thats my spirit. I feel like the only positive outcome is the one that happened. I apologize if it seemed like I wasnt actively trumpeting my feelings but I felt like with the noise I couldnt get a clear mind.
Im really excited about returning to Broadway and may we just continue the change and thats all Im going to say. Its an unbelievably unfortunate situation but the only positive outcome is the one thats happening and I know Hugh feels exactly the same way.
My eyes rolled. Rudin and Foster both are taking steps back to make decisions on their own and not based on the noise of social media. And theyre BOTH STILL involved with The Music Man. Get a fricking clue Sutton. And Hugh - hello??

I thought she dealt with it sensitively and honestly. She’s in a very hard position here. It’s clearly a show she desperately wants to do and yet this horrible situation has arisen. She’s not the baddie here.
I still believe this show is going to collapse. More allegations will come out and certainly Hugh will have to abandon ship. Then the whole thing falls down.

People wanted her to say something and she did. I agree it may not be what the "target audience" wanted to hear, but we don't get a say in that. I appreciate that it came from her. Sutton has been around for a long time. I find her to be a very genuine and compassionate leader.

I think you hit the nail right on the head there. She is clearly in a vulnerable position here, yet, she dealt with it in a very classy way, and for that, I applaud her. I also feel that posters here felt that others involved should speak out as well, yet they have yet to do so. Or, maybe they won’t and we have to respect that too. Just like we should respect what Foster said, though it’s not what everyone here wanted to hear. Just because some posters on here feel like certain people should say something, doesn’t mean that anyone has to. It is not a sign of being complicit, they have their reasons for not speaking out and that is simply that.

Sutton never worked with Rudin on Broadway before the Music Man.
I thought her statement was fine and genuine.

I don't even know if that would have made things okay with some people.

I love me some Foster and look forward to seeing her in the show so I'm glad she didn't just fold like everyone wanted her to do. I respect her opinion and feelings and support her! She's not the bad guy here! Neither is Hugh! Actors wanting to do a show - and a high profile show at that - makes total sense.

Hey guys, just wondering—what does Sutton Foster’s feet taste like? Also, how does it feel to be part of the problem? Patti LuPone, Norm Lewis, Bette Midler, Betty Buckley, Hugh Jackman, Mandy Patinkin, Harvey Fierstein, Donna Murphy ...crickets. I’m not placing blame on Sutton exactly, as she is not responsible for other people’s behavior, but her statement was tone-deaf. I think a lot of people look up to Sutton and are disappointed. I know I’m disappointed in many Broadway performers who have always been quick to mouth off about other issues but silent on this.

I could be wrong but it seems Sutton made her statement after Rubin announced he was stepping back; seems it would have been harder before hand.Perhaps my sequence of events is off.

No, your sequence of events is exactly right, SmoothLover.
I mean, it really was a complete non-statement. She could have saved herself some time and just stayed silent, but good for her, I guess.

But, here's the rub: you demanded she say something, and then when she does, you criticize her statement to it being not "good enough", or a "non statement".
Like Judge Judy likes to say, "You ate the steak. You pay for it".

Exactly. Only men would demand that a woman carry this entire thing and no one else needs to say anything. It's laughable, sexist and disrespectful. She said something, unlike Hugh. Where's the bitching about him? Hmmm...
Don't like what she said? Nobody cares. Move on.

Unless someone tells me in exact detail how that actually happens legally and financially and with the show still happening, I'm perfectly fine with her mature, realistic statement.
In the meantime, I'm still waiting to hear from notable past Rudin collaborators like Meryl Streep, Denzel Washinton, Ivo van Hove, Jeff Daniels, Susan Sarandon, Nathan Lane, among others.

I’m not pressed or held up by this, I just shared my reaction to the “statement”. Nothing to ‘move on’ from. We’re all just in here killing time until live performances resume.
I didn’t demand or expect her to speak up, because I knew that she wouldn’t actually say anything...and here we are.
The same people praising or defending Sutton Foster in this moment are the same people criticizing Karen Olivo for actually saying something, I see it over several social media platforms. The implicit bias is not lost on me.
I agree with the poster above re: Hugh. However, we shouldn’t expect him to say anything either. He’s kept his mouth shut about most things over the years.

I have to ask, what is it with you and the generalization of all men? Did you do some sort of polling with results stating that ALL men act one way??
As for Fosters comment, well, I feel like since everyone has their own view on what sort of comment she should have made, people are gonna be upset because it didn’t fit in with their own viewpoints on the matter.

Supporting Sutton Foster is racist; not supporting Sutton Foster is sexist.
