Apparently Swept Away IS now extending to December 29th. Emails are going out from Telecharge to people that had tickets after the 15th and were refunded. Now asking them to buy tickets again, creating frustration from fans of the show. I get that they want to recoup as much money as possible, but this wasn’t exactly handled the best way.
The email sent says…
“Last week, we notified you that SWEPT AWAY was closing on December 15. The Longacre Theatre box office has refunded your tickets.
But we have good news!
SWEPT AWAY has just announced it's running two more weeks and will now close on Sunday, December 29. That's two extra weeks to see this
"spectacular" New York Times Critic's Pick from the Avett Brothers.
BUY TICKETS AGAIN
We hope you'll consider seeing SWEPT AWAY before it closes. Happy Holidays!

Their website still says "Must Close December 15" but when you click on tickets it has dates through the 29th.

He was right. How embarrassing for you.
it's official. two week extension.
I love being right.
And I still think this was the plan all along--and a very good one, at that.
it was announced after the show tonight. anyone have a video?
Sigh. I have a pair of TDF tix for what would have been the final performance on December 15th at 7:30 pm. If anyone is interested, PM me and we can figure something out.

Good for them, this kind of thing rarely happens with formerly open-ended runs in the Broadway industry.

LOL! I didn’t even see that I was quoted like this until now. Also, I’m 30.
I mean, I guess getting these direct words from Adrian Blake Enscoe that night wasn’t enough - but now whose ship is WRECKED?!
FYI - I had tickets for next week that were purchased with a discount code. I got the refund yesterday and am re-purchasing them again tonight, and the discount code still works. Happy to actually get to see it and to not have to pay more than I paid originally.

I love when this happens. I'm not going to let trolls like this forget when they're wrong so they can expect me to pay extra attention when they make comments on this board from now on. I love it when trolls get owned.
Also, for those needing the discount
Swept Away - 30% off regular prices on select seats in all sections of the Longacre

Good for all involved but as someone who had a ticket for the 22nd, was told it was cancelled, scrambled to squeeze it in before the 15th and now being told my original performance is back on-sale....this was very annoying.

The last four musicals at the Longacre have been this, “Lempicka”, “Diana” and “The Lightning Thief”. They need another “Prom” ASAP.

While it still stinks that the show is going to close, I'm glad that the cast and crew will at least have paychecks through the holidays.

pablitonizer, can you update the thread title?

Yes, I agree but I hope Dead Outlaw holds out for the Belasco or Booth.
What are the chances they add one more week if they get a solid boost in sales with this extension?
Thank you to Quiz for proving the code: CAPTIN. Got a great center orch seat for 150.
As of right now, all performances from 12/18 - 12/29, minus the final final performance, are up on TDF.

the week prior to Christmas is typically a quiet time for Broadway and NYC. They'll likely sellout most of their shows between 12/26-12/29(7 performances).

Look, it's not like every show sells out at full price all through December (and I'm sure much of this is driven by the long runners and smash hits). But, grosses are usually significantly elevated between Thanksgiving and Christmas on the whole.
I think this show's problem (which is why I was doubter of there being a potential extension to start with) is the ultra-compressed timeline this is all happening in. They announced they were closing in a week and a half on a Thursday, then announced an extension the following tuesday, giving them a week to go from ZERO to 1100 tickets sold for the first performance of that extension and three weeks to sell 17,000 tickets. That's kinda crazy and I think (financially) it could end up backfiring for them. Happy for the cast and crew that gets a couple extra weeks of employment though.
