It really seems like Nederlander is trying to replicate the success that Great Gatsby is having. Big spectacle musical, broadway stars in the principle roles, very active fan forward social media accounts, close the balcony and sell less seats per performance. Sounds promising so far, I like what I see.
two ladies tickets said: "I would be interested to see how this plays from the mezzanine or balcony. I saw this in London at the Almedia, which seats 325 people. I know they're upscaling everything for a bigger Broadway house and hopefully that will make a difference for people sitting in those areas."
They have closed the balcony for all performances. It's either Orchestra or Mezz now.
I saw Tammy Faye at the Almeida in London and loved it. I don't mind the departure of Andrew Rannells, although he was good. I'm thrilled that Katie Brayben will be reprising her role as Tammy. One of the best performances in the original was Zubin Varla, who won an Olivier Award as Jerry Falwell. He also has my favorite song in the show. Michael Cerveris should be able to do the role justice, but I hope they don't cut Falwell's songs.
The Almeida production is genuinely one of my favourite theatre-going experiences ever. Borle and Cerveris are PHENOMENAL casting, although I loved Rannells and Varla in London. I'm just so desperate for the eventual cast album, I've been waiting very patiently!
Finn Ross, the projection designer, was teasing something big for Tammy Faye. Playbill did an article interviewing him. He said he didn’t want to give anything away. He talked about Betty Boop though.
