I agree and based on the rehearsal clips it looks like one helluva cast.
It seems to me that discussing the economic prospects of an incoming show, good or bad, is a very common thing here, and well within the scope of a Broadway discussion board. I'm not sure why it's become such a point of contention on this particular thread.

Any British musical seems to become a point of contention in early threads. There was a loud group in early Cabaret threads who insisted any person who did not love the production was uneducated and wrong. There is drama in this thread. There was some drama around Sunset before it started. There are clearly some active stans in the Operation Mincemeat thread. It's certainly not all British posters, but there are a number who love to tell the rest of us how wrong we are.
I'm looking forward to seeing this show, I hope it succeeds. But you can't ignore your eyes. People have to see the show for there to be word of mouth. As of now, it's not clear how they are going to get people in to see this.
And for those who claim they did not see any name calling, "instead of just lisping about it flopping before the first preview" is less than two shades away from Sharon Tate's famous quote in Valley of the Dolls.
I have to confess that, although I love the classic musicals, I'm not much of a fan of new musicals. Despite that, I saw Tammy Faye at the Almeida in London and I LOVED IT! The cast was great, particularly Katie Brayben in the eponymous role and Zubin Varla, who played Jerry Falwell, who had (IMHO), the best song. Although Varla is one of my favorite actors, Michael Cerveris will certainly do justice to the very juicy role. I just hope they don't cut his song.
Andrew Rannells was very good as Jim, but Christian Borle will be fine, it's not as showy a role as Tammy Faye or Jerry Falwell. Looking forward to seeing this great new musical again!

I didn't notice this the first time I read it, but since dan94 pointed it out... why did you choose this particular verb? It seems clearly homophobic on the face of it; the burden is on you to demonstrate otherwise.
Not homophobic at all. Just the image of 2 queens bitching about something. Sometimes on this board it's like watching The Boys In The Band, but every character is Emory.
There is no burden on me to demonstrate anything. You can take it how you want to take it, but it wasn't intended that way.
It's no secret that i like this show and want it to do well, but then i want most shows to do well. Clearly sales could be better, but what shiow doesn't want more sales? I just feel that saying things like the show is going to flop hard, or it will be closed and gone within 3 months, a bit harsh, especially when it hasn't even done a first preview.. It's almost like some folks want shows to fail. And as for it being an esotric subject that only a handful of gay men will care about.... *insert eye-roll here*

"It's not homophobic, you're just a bunch of lisping, bitching queens."
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."

Bitch...you ain't Proust. There's no hidden meaning or subtext. There is simply no other way to take that except as a putdown of a certain type of gay man.
People always bitch and complain about revivals being done over and over, that cheap touring revivals come in and take up a Broadway house, that a show isn't 'Broadway Quality', that shows are stunt cast with D-list names that a handful of people have heard of, that Broadway isn't what it used to be blah blah blah
And that's what you deserve.
Here is a brand new musical, that you clearly know nothing about, written and created by people with a wealth of knowledge, talent, with success, led by an amazing talented cast, and you write ot off because you ignorantly think only a few gays wll be interested. What about people who remember Jim and Tammy when they were on tv, people who followed the scandal closrely, or maybe, people who actually like good writing and great performances? People that are open minded and actually want to learn about something new, instead of just seeing their favourite Ru-Girl in a drag show. What about people who want to be entertained and uplifted? Isn't that what people pay a lot of money for?
How about actually seeing something and having an informed opinion on it, instead of just lisping about it flopping before the first preview. If it does bomb, then so be it, but if it does it will be because of miserable gits like you. And people wonder why we can't have nice things!
