Was Shoshana's song in Act I "Be Kind, Rewind" still in the show?

Yes, Be Kind Rewind is still in.
Got out at 4;50. Elviras are still in.

The stans over on Reddit are just that. They have severe tunnel vision.
Two Strangers is simple but in all ways, as a show, better without the flash."
Wow, imagine having tunnel vision. You're so lucky you don't have that.

Yes -- this song and one of the ballads need to be cut in half

Have to agree on that. Love Be Kind, Rewind as a song. Love all of Shoshana’s solos. And every single one could be cut in half and not hurt the plot of the show.
I really liked this overall. It’s only going to get tighter during previews. Not sure if they updated the big act II fight, but I thought it felt solid.

Just got out of the matinee and I don’t have much to add that hasn’t been said already. When this works, it works really well. They still need to trim some fat and 100% agree that “Be Kind, Rewind” should be next on the chopping block. Almost wonder if they could prelude “Wild” there instead with different lyrics and cut the length in half.

It's mainly you and the other Ensemble name that appear to have that problem with me.

...so you want them to nominate QUEEN OF VERSAILLES or BEACHES instead? Because it's slim pickins out here and I think this is basically pre-ordained to get Musical, Score, and Book noms, regardless of quality. (I haven't seen it yet)

Found this to be truly dreadful. The audience around me was losing its collective mind though, so perhaps I’m in the minority.

Just got out of the show so I’m dumping thoughts while it’s fresh. I went in completely blind—never saw the movie, didn’t read reviews, nothing—which I almost never do.
A few songs were kinda cheesy, but some were really good and gave me chills. “Be Kind and Rewind” was cute, but the opening number “No More Monsters” was… not it. At all. “Have To Have You” was the first moment where I was like ohhhh this is a rock show—and I loved it. Still stuck in my head. “Belong to Someone” and “My Heart With You” are honestly two of the most beautiful songs on Broadway right now. Real gems.
Act 2 lost me —it got waaaaaayyyyyy too cheesy. I started getting very annoyed, and the ending felt rushed. The Frog Brothers and Sam were doing the absolute most, and it leaned way too campy compared to how dark Act 1 felt. “My Brother Is a…” was cute though.
We had Liesie on for Star and I thought she did a great job (no one to compare her to though). Also… the sexual tension between Michael and David?? My gay ass lowkey wanted them to just make out.
And I’m sorry, but this playbill design is ass. It looks like I’m about to watch a magic show or something.

Ouch! A slow burn that never ignites. Aside from the clever design—which has more life than the eerily lifeless scenes—the show offers little in the way of thrills. There’s nothing especially terrifying here, and the flying and special effects fall short of spectacular.
The talented Shoshana Bean shines in her “musical within a musical,” and Paul Nolan earns credit for diving headfirst into the delirium. Vocally, L.J. Benet impresses, and Ali Louis Bourzgui emerges as the show’s only menacing presence—more by performance than by what’s on the page—and the less said about the score, the better.

I saw it tonight. I would vote for Two Strangers over Lost Boys.
It’s never boring but I think it struggles to land the tone. It feels like it wants campy humor and heart but this production wants to be pretty serious. I feel like I needed to fear for the main characters’ lives and I never felt any of them were in danger of being killed. The design is always interesting. I wish they lit the flying a bit brighter I get they’re trying to mask wires but I feel like I couldn’t appreciate how high they were because I could barely see them. I went in really wanting to love it but a lot didn’t work for me.

I don't disagree about the tone. It feels like Act I is a horror story and Act II is a campy action story. They need more of the campy humor in Act I and another good scare in Act II. There are so many places on that set to hide some of the vampires to show that the threat is real without having to add in more flying sequences or dialogue/music in Act II.
The crowd was loving it this afternoon, but the crowd was filled with Lost Boys the Movie fans who were waiting on certain story beats and jokes. Like, saying hi to people I know from vending at horror conventions before and after the show movie fans.

I agree Act I is the more horror story and that to pull it into Act II wouldn’t involve stunts. I think they just never really get the tension to build in the finale. It never feels life or death and that’s in the script and delivery not in action.

This is going to be a huge hit, full stop. We sat in the first few rows and we were probably among the collective people losing their minds that someone referenced. No shame. My only old person concern was that there was a lot of smoke in the first few rows and there should have been masks available or a warning when purchasing tickets. It’s a lot. (Showing my age.)
First - the talent and charisma and energy, youth etc. in the cast is undeniable and the effects/staging is beyond impressive and fun. It’s worth going for these two factors alone. This is what will keep this show running with endless options for replacement casts for years. The cast stage dooring nightly right off the bat is creating an undeniable buzz. This is probably how rent or Hamilton felt if you knew about it early. There will be no build with this show. The cast just had undeniable, pure joy- the show is a blast.
As others have said, the pacing still needs work in Act 2 and there are two songs that I could do without for the cheese factor “Be kind, rewind” and the Superhero song…I mean I eventually cracked a smile at both but maybe it’s the “be kind, rewind” phrasing for me… if it wasn’t so cheesy you could have a really cool song with movie references. Let’s face it, they probably aren’t getting cut.
I LIKED the moving to California song concept in the beginning- it gave the mom and boys lots of stage time and brought Shoshana’s beautiful voice in early.
The end death scenes could be a little scarier. and honestly I just wanted more David/vampire time all the time.
This is going to be a massive, massive hit. I wish I was an investor. I went with my tween who had no background going in and they couldn’t stop smiling for almost three hours. Moms take your tweens now.
They need to rush the cast recording becuse while the songs were too complex to be earworms, I have spent all morning looking for any clips I can find. I just wanted to hear those spectacular voices again. Any show that features these stars or has them in a park will be packed.
Lastly, we saw Lieise for Star as well who was amazing and upon seeing clips and finding out that maria from Old Friends is the actual Star I do have go back again ASAP. (I think I single-handedly kept the Old Friends lotto running.)

Did anyone go last night? I'm hearing they really beefed up the final fight sequence.
I'm hearing that David and Michael have a flying fight in place of Star trying to give herself up in place of Michael. Also cuts to Superpower and the Murder Capital of the World.

It is for sure getting a Best Musical nom. It’s not a great show and I expect the reviews to be middling, praising only the set and the actors, but look at the competition. This was a terrible season for new musicals. You think Beaches or Queen of Versailles is gonna get nominated!? It’ll be Schmigadoon, Lost Boys, Titanique and Two Strangers. There are literally no other options.

Oh, Lost Boys will for sure get nominated, but I suppose we can't even fully judge what "it" is until the show is actually finalized. Two Strangers got very mixed reviews and is barely staying afloat. I can see it coming down to Schmigadoon and Lost Boys.

Hmm indeed. The new fight apparently addresses that.
So Michael kills David, clearly, and David has a slow-mo fall into the raised orchestra pit where the ensemble catches him. I was hoping someone here had more details on that. I have to assume it's the "dead" ensemble catching him and claiming him, but I can't confirm that. So, yeah, not as uneventful as it was.

I’m happy they address that, because that was something really cheesy to me. It’s like…
**stab** “okay…that’s it?”
I absolutely hate the opening number. I know that they aren’t going to completely redo it, butttt…it’s just so corny.

*Possible Spoilers*
It seems like the same fight sequence I saw on Wednesday. There’s only so much thrill you can get from two actors hanging from wires and swinging toward each other. For a moment that should showcase technical wizardry, it just didn’t land. Honestly, I was more intrigued by how easily they unclipped their harnesses when the lights dimmed throughout the show. As the show stands now, it’s bookended by a less-than-thrilling opening and a thud of an ending—neither scene makes an impact. When a musical based on vampires takes 40 minutes to get to the first bite, you’ve got a problem.

I had a friend there yesterday, and you're describing the old fight scene that I also saw last week. What they described to me didn't have both characters flying anymore and nobody is swinging.
Also *spoiler*
The show literally starts with a bite lol

The show starts with a knock off of the Stranger Things jump scare noise. (audience laughs at each other) . It is then followed by the opening of Bat Boy.

If this is to be a "hit," we will need more business, as the seat maps are not encouraging at the moment.
