For those who have seen the show…I’m debating between Row D 105/107 and Row H 106/108. (Front mezz is also available and I’m sure would be a great view but don’t think I could handle the tight legroom - I’m only 5’11” but from what I’ve heard the legroom is ridiculous).
We generally like being close to see the actors faces, but don’t want to miss anything in such a “big production”.
Im going in June and could always wait for more seats to become available during the week of, but would really like to just lock something in now.
Any recommendations?
Thanks!

Two holds during the show tonight, first one was:
… after Michael drinks the blood and Star is beginning her “don’t say I didn’t warn you” soliloquy as the rest of the men ride the elevator back up.
second was:
… during the major shared flying sequence in the lair, where Michael and the other vampires fly for the first time after the train jump.
Michael and another performer bumped into one another in the air, and were left hanging and laughing and waving at the audience while the show curtain came down lol.
regarding the finale:
we got the new “Michael stabs David and pushes him into the bodies in the Orchestra Pit” staging.
i also felt it incredibly underwhelming and was surprised when people mentioned that entire sequence previously happened on wires- you’d feel it be more interesting that way.
it just needs to be a BIGGER moment. make it louder. give us an auditory jumpscare when he gets stabbed. something.

I’ve heard multiple people talk about the show-starting jump scare. Could you please elaborate on that? (What actually happens/is heard? When does it happen?) - Thanks

It’s not that serious. Please excuse me if im wrong.
Frog Brothers does the announcements. Followed by a loud noise. Curtain rises. Really bad acting opening dark scene. Lost Boys sign.
If someone can confirm? it’s early my memory is coming back lol

I went in with little info or expectations — I’d never heard of the movie (my apologies to the legendary Joel Schumacher) and knowing it was about vampires made me less excited. I was so, so pleasantly surprised! I had a great time and will be back post-opening.
Michael Arden is directing the hell out of it and the praise for the set and staging is very earned. It feels like a huge, real Broadway Show, and after seeing weak Beaches earlier this week, I was so glad to be entertained. Really impressive voices across the cast and I enjoyed the score more than I guess others have — I’ll have the cast recording in the rotation when it comes out.
I understand the comments about the tone being uneven, but honestly wasn’t a huge deal for me, and not something I feel like most people would walk of the theatre thinking about.
If this show doesn’t succeed (and I very much hope it DOES now that I’ve seen it), I’d place the blame on the marketing. The main images they’re using, of just a hand coming out of the dark and the bland Lord of the Rings-esque font logo, are not interesting or selling how thrilling this show is. I guess the movie is doing a lot of the lifting as far as getting people in the door, but you absolutely don’t have to be a fan of the movie to love it, and I hope they do more to market it to a broader audience. If they can get the crowds that have fallen in love with The Outsiders and Stranger Things: The First Shadow (and to a lesser extent, Rocky Horror and Little Shop) in the door, I feel like they’ll have a hit.

I was there last night and felt the same way — it needs like a crazy guitar solo or a moment of slow motion, something to heighten the impact of the moment. I’m glad to know they’re still working on it; it feels fixable, and doing so will strengthen the cool things they’re already doing

I like being close and seeing faces too, but I think row D would be too close for this show. Row H orchestra should be better. I sat in row A front mezz and thought it was perfect. Btw I'm 6'2.

The frog brothers show up in the boxes to give a kitchy no phones announcement etc. Then a loud noise out of nowhere with a hard light shift seemingly out of nowhere (see Stranger Things opening). It's just a thingl to make people on edge/scared briefly. (something the show never does).
The title eventually rises - lifted (a direct lift from Lloyd's Sunset Blvd.- but a set from the lower elevator, rather than screen. People clap and cheer (just like in Sunset Blvd).

The physical / set / visual production is great. The direction of the material itself, music (with writers), tone, some of the actors performances, construct (with writers) is lacking and covered by high money tech. Direction of a new musical is much more than the physical visual show.
it's music video but the repetitive elevators/scene changes and choices of when and how long flying occurs gets old. (agree, with previous poster, that watching where the wires are in the light and the clipping and unclipping of harnesses become more interesting).
The music is on par with Beaches. The better music (and complete shows) are in Two Strangers, Schmigadoon and Titanique (the latter two not eligible for music). Two Strangers & the score from Death of Salesman are the highlights of the season for me.

I'll gladly agree to disagree about this score against Beaches, and I don't mind if that means I'm in the minority. I found Beaches' score (Wind Beneath My Wings aside) to be boring at best and laughable at worst -- it would be painful to sit through God Bless Girlfriends again. I'm happy for those that connected with it, I just didn't. I felt like there was quite a bit of variation in how the numbers in Lost Boys were staged, and I don't mind the notion that the uneven tone is a result of the direction, but that's just not something that bothered me at all; I would rather a show take big swings, and I'm crediting Michael for Lost Boys doing that successfully. I found his direction of the material to be effective. I watched the movie for the first time today and didn't see any more nuance in the characters or story than the show has -- I think they're doing a great job bringing it to life on stage.
None of that is meant to say that I wouldn't give Best Musical or Score to Two Strangers, but if Lost Boys continues to smooth things out during previews (and it seems like they will), it could be a contender for Best Musical.
