If that’s what they were supposed to be, then yes

- Song cut - there was a song early in Act 1 for Sam that was cut completely
Was it the song in the comic shop about him running away from things?"
Yeah that's the one. Was gone last night."
That's a surprising cut, especially since his big act two song with the superheroes is a direct response to it."
It was still there. It's called "That's Not Me".
There are so many things that need to go

No, it wasn’t there. It was cut.

It may have been. Friend went last night and there was no insert, but they don't do them sometimes for a day or two. Tuesday it was in. She complained about the length of both acts (among other things).

Found this to be an uneven night, but the best musical offering this lousy season. Great cast, some good songs but an overall weak score, and a decent adaptation. The design team has knocked it out of the park... But I must confess - I found the "special effects" lacking. Compared to the final fight sequences of the film, it all felt flat, and lazy. Also must admit - I hated the cutting of grandfather, and the lack of use of the antlers they still put on the set. Like Chekhov's gun, without any purpose.
The audience ate it up tonight, and lost their mind everytime someone flew (as if we haven't been flying actors for a century now). So, maybe it's just me and it'll be a big fat hit. But if this is our best offering this season, it's been a dud for new musicals.
Highlights for me are Ben pajak, Shoshana and newcomer LJ Benet.
Glad I saw it. Probably will not return unless offered an opportunity, but yes, glad I saw it.

The Stranger Things: The Last Show flying and special effects are so good The Lost Boys doing the same with more people at once (and being able to see the double wires) doesn't hit hard. But for young audiences who maybe haven't seen ST maybe it does.

Several minutes into Thursday night's performance I asked myself how one of my fever dreams wound up on stage. I had a great time and that is coming from someone who grew up with The Lost Boys on TV quite often (my mom had a thing for Jason Patric).
It's a lot of show right now though, and it's already been clearly articulated in previous posts what needs to be cut, trimmed, and further refined to keep the story moving. I don't believe it's a herculean task either, and hope the team behind this can get it done. The audience response was through the roof however, every song eliciting sustained cheers, and the older women next to me head bopping and air drumming during numbers to a show with less than a week's worth of previews.
In these dark times, I feel like the universe has rewarded me a little joy with Ali as David. I. Loved. Everything. He is underutilized in Act 2 though, as the story focuses its attention to you know, the good guys.
I look forward to seeing this again once frozen, hopefully from the front mezz which is going to offer the most complete stage picture. Front orch was great but you will be looking up repeatedly.

Bless those people in the front row (box office rush) because that stage is high

I saw the Saturday matinee yesterday, 4/4. I enjoyed it mostly, but agree with many of the criticisms. The tone of the story is inconsistent, ranging between serious and camp. I thought the Frog Brothers were annoying, more like a parody act from SNL.
The sets and special effects are stunning. I think this show will appeal to fans of Stranger Things and Back to the Future, along with fans of the movie.
Shoshana is wonderful. I wish her part could be bigger, and loved every time she sang. Maria Wirries as Star was quite impressive.
I was disappointed that Ben Pajak was out yesterday. However his understudy, Pierce Wheeler, was wonderful making his Sam debut. He nailed his big Superpower number. This kid is a star in the making.

I also attended the Saturday matinee 4/4 and overall I truly have no idea how I felt about the show.
It's incredibly entertaining start to finish, sometimes in positive and promising ways, other times because it's baffling in many ways.
Tonally, act 1 feels like a horror movie or thriller, perhaps more successfully than any other horror/thriller musical I've seen before, but then act 2 plays like a campy comedy almost start to finish until the (wildly anticlimactic) final confrontation which is over and done in about 2 minutes.
The score is akin to The Outsiders with the volume amped up to an 11. Similarly lyrically unspecific, but tuneful and well performed by the cast. The vocals across the board were very impressive. The standout song for m was Shoshana's "Wild" in act 2. One of the real songs of character development. Can also easily point to at least 2 numbers that should be cut because they serve minimal purpose and at least in one case is so confusingly staged (the superhero number, well-delivered but a moment of REAL camp).
The technical elements are really something to behold, clearly no expense was spared. The set is massive and well-used with tons of tricks and hidden areas. In an era where everything is stripped down and minimalist, it's exciting to see a truly massive set. The effects are well done (save a pyrotechnic late in act 2 that just looked a little silly to me).
As I said before, the vocals of the cast are very exciting, not just the principals, but the ensemble harmonies are really beautiful. The mics can probably be turned down a SMIDGE since pretty much everyone onstage is a vocal powerhouse.
The cast is doing as much as they can despite a number of the roles being very under-written. This is the most I've been impressed with Shoshana Bean, she's trying her best to imbue her role with heart and humanity and provide an emotional center to a show that is SO big. She sounds great, even though her "Be Kind Rewind" song should absolutely be cut.
Ali Louis Bourzgui is really establishing himself as someone to watch. He is just magnetic onstage, sexy and charming smooth as silk vocals and a real star quality to him.
Pierce Wheeler was on for Benjamin Pajak and I thought he was excellent. Would not have known it was his first time on for the role (and his second principal role in less than a week). He was assured, confident, and made the character so easy to root for. Cannot wait to see what he does next.
LJ Benet is solid, I didn't get a real sense of personality or star quality from him, but I don't know if that's him as a performer or the way the role is written.
The rest of the cast is largely good, Maria Wirries has a really powerful voice though I found her a bit lacking in the book scenes. Paul Nolan was...this was not his best work. He isn't given much of a character to play and act 1 felt like he was trying very hard to play at "I'm just a sweet lil nerdy guy" and then act 2 he had to speed-run the rest of his arc. He has his standard "screlt as high as you can in the middle of a song" moment in act 2 and delivers well. It just felt like an uneven performance.
Overall, terribly entertaining but I don't know where I fall on the actual quality of the show. That being said, I'd give this Best Musical before giving it to Two Strangers. Will revisit post-opening and see how the show has been finalized.

I saw this via lottery ticket on saturday night.. i was center mezzanine row G which was a pretty good seat to see everything.
FYI - Outrageous line was down to sixth avenue.. once they started letting us in - it was quick. Kids were walking up and down the line a QR code to order merch from the line... giving money grab vibes to me.
The Reddit crowd is over the moon for this show. I (and the friend I went with) are fans of the movie but we are early 60's now. Maybe I'm too old to see it but at intermission I said to her - I don't know if I love it or hate it. She said - same. It's so over the top in every way. The sets are amazing .. the stagecraft .. i loved the vamps as a rock band. The second half dragged and didn't feel connected to the first half. People actually gasped a "the reveal" which was not a reveal to me. Am I too jaded? Not a single song is memorable -- I can't think of a single lyric now. Voices are great.
Again -- maybe this is for the kids? The audience was really excited by it ... lots of cheering .. applause after every single song and extended SO at the end (as is the norm these days) while I was wishing I could get out of my row sooner. There's a short scene after the bows - which was a big eye roll for me.
Maybe reviews will come out and there will be egg on my face ... would love that because it's clear a lot of work went into this and it would be great if they have a long, happy run for the people who love this.

Half of the audience was full of Tik tokers and friends. They have a table in the lobby for them set up with free cups etc

^Are you sure that wasn't the bar/merch pick up?
I got merch via the QR code before the show because the merch line was insane and I picked up my merch at the table adjacent to the bar on the way out.
They also used this table for intermission bar pick up as well.

On reddit most people believe this is winning Best Musical, haven't seen yet (May 6!), but it doesnt feel like a Best Musical winner of the 2020's

It's a weird year and it's a bit too early to tell. I do get the feeling that Two Strangers is the presumptive favorite but reluctantly and that voters will be open to an alternative.

Certainly, but I don't, maybe if something is changeling TWO STRANGERS, maybe will be SCHMIGADOON? The early word of mouth seems more likely. The amount of criticism to Lost Boys score kinda makes me doubt it could win.

I would be shook if this gets a nom for best musical. Me thinking prob set and score(maybe) I’d rather have them give a nom to Sho for dealing with that direction in Act 2 at the end of Wild

The stans over on Reddit are just that. They have severe tunnel vision.
Two Strangers is simple but in all ways, as a show, better without the flash.

Brief tech hold at the matinee today after the motorcycles. I think the orchestra lift didn’t come up properly.
Act I is solid. This cast is great. Love the sets and lights. Score is good. I can see the ballad heavy complaint but it flowed really well. The flying is very good.
