Let’s hope they don’t just cancel the performance if Hugh calls out
He has a standby so that won't happen. That's the point of this entire announcement.

In all his last 4 Broadway engagements - yearlong run for TheBoyFromOz and limited runs for A Steady Rain/BackOnBroadway/TheRiver -- Hugh never missed a performance! Perfect attendance!
When he went on a pre-determined vacation schedule, they did not sell tickets for the show (BoyFromOz)
I did see BoyFromOz standby Kevin Spirtas in one performance because he was also understudy to another key cast member ( who called out for that evening).

A comment from Jerry Zaks on the cast announcement --
"The Music Man is a valentine to America, a story about two people who can't help but fall in love with each other. We have assembled the kind of irresistible cast that our audiences would, similarly, fall hopelessly and helplessly in love with night after night. I feel so lucky to preside over this remarkable group of performers."
I hope they announce his vacation on Telecharge so I can buy another ticket for a really cheap price.

Genuine,and/ or ignorant question...Does Sutton Foster show that type of personality and will her songs be in the Shirley Jones register?
Thats the way I felt about her in Millie.
No offense to Hugh (like he cares), but I would genuinely rather see Max as Harold and would gladly buy a ticket just to see him.
Me too. Usually Telecharge is good about posting about who will or won't be in a show (vacations, alternates) but I have yet to find a date where Hugh is taking time off.

Unknowingly, I bought tickets for February 9th, a day before opening. I really hope the whole cast will be there before their big night. Sutton is who I want to see the most.

You, again, don’t know what you’re talking about. Look up John Hill.
also, Clayton seems not right for this at all. Very talented but younger and hasn’t had a non - ensemble role on Broadway. So to go from that to leading a giant new musical? Odd.

Might I introduce you to Sutton Foster?
He will lie and say Sutton Foster never did that. Because he lies about everything.
Hugh has two men that will cover him in case he's out, so they don't have to cancel, that is how it works.
To believe a cast has this many people in it right after the pandemic! Lovely that they all have this job, but also a sentiment to the potential grandeur this production will have. Curious as to how many musicians there will be.

Just looking at this photo from the first day of rehearsals gives one that feeling that we may expect a beautiful and grand revival of The Music Man! Sutton on the extreme left and Hugh ( whatever he seems to be doing) at the back as if overlooking the entire proceedings -- they seem to bring on so much enthusiasm to the project ( sharing on social media what they have been doing in terms of learning new routines).

But Foster had lead roles beforehand. Les Miz, etc. so it’s a little different.
You’re overthinking it sweets.
