Interesting discussion of the rumble scene in the Forbes article. Can someone who has seen both The Outsiders and Ivo Van Hove's revival of West Side Story compare these two rumbles in the rain? I wonder if The Outsiders team, including Danya Taymor, was inspired in part by WSS.

I saw both shows. The West Side Story rumble was very splashy. Water was splashing everywhere, and the cast was slipping and sliding. I was more horrified for the safety of the cast than I was impressed by the staging. The Outsiders has some sort of surface on the stage, I think rubber pellets, that absorb the water. If you saw the number on the Tonys, that's pretty much it.

I would say Ivo’s Rumble was more like you were watching a real fight (to my memory I only saw it once). Danya’s is very stylized and dancelike
Ah, now I remember that Oscar Powell (Tony) and Ben Cook (Riff) were injured during previews of WSS, probably caused by unsafe conditions on a wet stage. Good on The Outsiders for spreading something on the floor that fits in with the stage design and acts as a safety measure in the rain. I rushed The Outsiders in previews at a matinee with school groups who were totally engaged, enthusiastic but not disruptive. The rumble scene was even more mind blowing in the full context of the show than later on the Tonys (when the lead in seemed a little awkward). If ever a cast deserved an ensemble award, it's this young cast.
Brody Grant was out for the 7/5 matinee, his understudy Trevor Wayne was very good
I thought it was a good production...but best musical (shrug), certainly can see how the staging probably pushed this over the other nominees and why they featured the rumble on the TONY's, it certainly is a stunner, but at its core it is kind of hard not to think about West Side Story when watching this show

I saw both and my immediate reaction was its similarity to WSS only with fewer folks.
Brody and Brent are off for family events. Daryl is in Italy. Sky was off as well but I’m not sure why. No one has left. Just illness and vacations."
That's still a lot out. The Facebook post said they opened the Playbill and a lot of little u/s slips fell out. So many that they couldn't track who was out because there was so many slips.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

They added slips for the sound booth too. So for example, when Trevor is on as Pony, his sound booth understudy gets a slip too.

Pardon my ignorance, but what does "added slips for the sound booth" mean? I saw the show but have no idea what your statement refers to. Do some of the cast do speaking/singing off stage? Is that what would get an understudy slip?

Yes! There are four additional singers off stage in a booth. All four understudy different characters as well. Trevor and Josh are primarily in the booth, so if they're on stage, they have an understudy in the booth while they understudy Pony (Josh/Trevor) or Johnny (Josh) on stage. I've only seen booth slips this week though. Maybe sound booth is the wrong term but its a booth off stage.
I re-read the novel recently for the first time since I had to read it in 8th grade English class. All the stuff with Ponyboy going on about his hair seems so relevant to what I see of teenage life nowadays. I take the train into the city (Vancouver) every day for work.. On my commute home every afternoon, at about 4pm I transfer from the Skytrain to a local bus for the last 15 minute ride to my neighborhood. The station is across the street from a big mall, and at that time in the afternoon it is swarming with teenagers. All the boys nowadays have a variation on the so-caled broccoli cut or mushroom top. They are constantly frou-frouinh their hair and puffing it up. Often they have come from the mall with bags from different hair salons and are comparing bottles of various wonder hair elixirs & sprays. It's like a live comedy show.

Yes, a block of tickets will be released next month. This show is massive and most performances are just straight up sold out. When you command over $400 for many tickets, you aren't going anywhere.
I'm curious about their scheduling. Starting in September, they eliminate the Wednesday evening show in favor of a second weekday matinee. This is most absolutely due to high demand they're probably receiving from school groups but curious if they'll continue with this schedule in the post-holiday winter months and into the Spring.
Either way, I'm over the moon this show is proving so popular.
Yup, figured as much. Just know a lot of other shows have tickets available well into 2025. Not saying I’m paying 400 a ticket. Will hold out for a discount since I’ll be there mid January.

It's probably temporary due to the shows being sold out most days. Hell's Kitchen lottery disappeared too post Tony wins and now it's back. Seems to me it's demand based.
For what it's worth, I just went to pick up tickets for later this year and around 10:50am, they were still selling standing room for tonight. Idk for anyone that's been staying away after hearing about 5/6am rush lines, it's still possible to see this on the cheaper side... and get some rest ;-)
