You know what’s really strange about the whole situation was the lack of promotion on television. Kristin appeared on Good Morning America during previews where they said the cast would be back to perform in January - which I found so odd at the time and I’m sure will not happen now. She was also on CBS Mornings last week, while F. Murray Abraham was on a Fox morning show. But that was it. I kept thinking she’d be on something involving NBC considering she also has Stumble to promote, but it never happened. Perhaps after the poor word of mouth during previews, they didn’t even bother. It just seems that Universal could have really put her to work on the promotion circuit with Stumble, Wicked: For Good, and then this could have caught some attention too. However, maybe since Damaschake no longer works for Universal, they weren’t willing to promote something of his.

Who's catching her Jackie debut tonight?

I am very excited to see what will likely be only three performances Sherie gets to do of this show tonight.
Also Andrew Kober posting a sanctamonious ig video about how it is ****ty that people are dancing on the shows grave to try and go viral this morning was very lol
I’ve seen a number of folks involved posting similar things. While, again, I think the piling on is unnecessary, I do think it generally speaks to how this team and this piece direly misread the mood and have never adequately addressed things.

I love me some SRS - the best Amneris ever. THIS makes me almost want to see this show...

I try to see everything but am skipping Queen of Versailles for 2 reasons: the bad word of mouth + Cheno’s comments on Kirk. It’s that simple. I’m choosing not to spend money on something where their lead is choosing to “appreciate” someone who was nothing but vile to the people I love and care about.
Am I happy people are losing their jobs? No, of course not. I heard it wasn’t a great show, and the lack of sales and again - word of mouth - seem to align with that. It’s unfortunate but - that’s show business.

I will celebrate bad shows closing the same way I celebrate bad politicians losing their campaigns. Yes, people are out of work, but now we can have something better and other people will get jobs they didn't have before.

Kristin Chenoweth’s performance is one of the greatest performances in musical theater history. What she’s doing up there is unlike anything Broadway has seen before, completely original, authentic, full of grit, pathos and comedy. One of the truly great actresses of the Broadway stage, frankly one of the greatest actresses working today. I am totally blown away by her.

Now the real question is: what’s going into the St. James next? I know some people are saying Evita but it’s more likely to be pushed to next season as I’m sure ALW doesn’t want it to compete with Jellicle Ball. I’m honestly thinking we might be able to get another new musical that’s been waiting in the wings to slide in.

The sad thing is people are under the impression that the musical is some sort of right wing thing. It’s not. It’s literally Gypsy in the beginning with a Sunset Boulevard finish. That’s the show. What are people so turned off/ offended by? Because clearly you haven’t seen it.

Gee -- another "brand new" account just started today. How many does that make now, Broadway Flash?

I never got right wing. It's a bad version of that mashed up with poor execution in writing, development and directing. There is even a rip-off of "This Time Next Year" from Sunset in Versailles. The show under these writers and director isn't good.
The self-important "hot take" "look at my empathy" / shaming / egregious back-patting virtue signaling, in hopes for a next job, from actors and our industry people online - regarding the closure response - is hilarious and ridiculous.

His take seems completely reasonable and respectful. There has been a glee in trashing this show here and especially Reddit.
It is interesting how narratives form. When other shows close quickly we get the "why aren't audiences supporting new work?" Funny how no one is asking that about Versailles, it's mostly "ha ha they got what they deserve."

Are broadway audiences that liberal that a story about a very rich woman offends them? My goodness, Broadway is literally the worst place to do theater these days given the environment and the economics. It’s tragic

Another Seaview musical flop.

Im not sure it being about a rich woman is the reason its not caught on, or certainly not one of the main ones. There doesnt seem to be a general lack of interest from the general public in the lives of the rich and glamorous. TV shows focused on rich people still do very well (Selling Sunset, Kardashians etc).
I just dont think this particular story is particularly interesting, regardless of rich or poor and most people wont have heard of Jackie Theres also no big 'current' star. Beyond the theatre crowd, Kristin isn't much of a big name and hasn't dont anything of note for a long time that would attract casual theatregoers. The show also seems over produced, did they really need to go so large on the production itself?

I get it’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but the glee in its closing is what’s interesting to me. Why are they so happy in this flop in the way that Redwood or Boop or Swept Away didn’t get.

I sat behind him one night at the theatre and he nodded off. Later that week he was interviewing the star of the show and raving about it. He's a paid spokesperson so take what he says with a grain of salt.
