I think the glee in shows closing is pretty simple: theatre people love dramatics.

What she’s doing up there is unlikeanything Broadway has seen before, completely original, authentic, full of grit, pathos and comedy. One of the truly great actresses of the Broadway stage, frankly one of the greatest actresses working today. I am totally blown away by her."
And another new name. Hello Mods! We all know who this is but they get to continue this over and over.
dirty dog said: "Are broadway audiences that liberal that a story about a very rich woman offends them? My goodness, Broadway is literally the worst place to do theater these days given the environment and the economics. It’s tragic"
You’re tragic.
dirty dog said: "I get it’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but the glee in its closing is what’s interesting to me. Why are they so happy in this flop in the way that Redwood or Boop or Swept Away didn’t get."
Well, I do think the glee in its closing is partially because people were very upset with Chenoweth’s Charlie Kirk comments. I don’t follow her on any of her social media platforms, so I don’t know if she regularly posts about right wing nazi influencers, but to do so, and say that he was a man of faith and appreciated some of his perspectives, REALLY upset her fan base (liberals, gays & their supporters). And then to choose to not address it for quite sometime and finally do so in a way where it seemed unapologetic… REALLY PISSED people off.
Also, the show was awful. AWFUL. Horrid idea for a musical. Jackie Siegel? An out of touch, vapid, right wing maga nut job as the title character? Really?? On Bway?
maybe it’s not so much glee as it is thank goodness it’s closing.
In case anyone wants a sneak peek of Sherie

Anyone so bold to say social media closed the show- their own producers practically sabotaged it by putting it in a theatre the cant sell. If it were in a more appropriate theatre like the n it probably would have last as long as redwood if not for the time of year. No one wants to see this happening. But it was sabotaged by nearly every department

Agreed it is terrible what these people are doing to Kristen who is arguably the greatest actress of our generation. I just saw the show and it was absolutely sensational Kristen was just phenomenal. I thought it was hilarious and found the story interesting. I make it a point to never believe reviews the same thing happened with Diana the Musical everyone hated it, got horrible reviews I LOVED it. Was hoping to see Sherie as well too bad it is closing so soon.

I think you'd get a lot of takers to argue about this.

You had me in the first half, not gonna lie.

She also has that Stumble TV show on NBC, so she has more than just Versailles to discuss.
Social media didn't sabotage this show.
The show sabotaged itself, in its POV-free decision to dramatize a woman whose life story told in the unique lexicon of musical theater has no audience. To paraphrase the late Hal Prince, you cannot sell a show that no one wants to see, no matter how often you proclaim the star's return or tether the project to the composer of Wicked. The Wicked audience has no reason to sit through Jackie's lurid tale, and a sign by the St. James ticket window announcing language and subject matter not suitable for children makes that error clear in even word-of-mouth marketing.
For my 22 years on this site, I've read of the supposed power here: that we close shows. We've never closed a show. Nor made one run. No matter how often industry cynics tout the toxicity or rabid loyalty posted here, it's not a place where an imprimatur given or withheld has long-term box office influence.
This show didn't work for a preponderance of audiences and critics alike. It didn't sell tickets. So it's closing.

I’m very much looking forward to seeing Sherrie. I’ve seen some pretty notable Broadway flops in the last 20 years, and I can’t imagine this is going to be as bad as some of them. But I trust many of you and have often agreed with your views. How does this compare to a Spider Man or a Lestat? Surely it’s more cohesive or enjoyable?

Last night on Colbert: Chenoweth, Stephen Schwartz, and the musical's orchestra performed the first-act finale "This Is Not the Way."
Chenoweth sold the song on Colbert. She's in great voice. But it lands the way it lands in the show's context: it's a declaration of renewed intention, that a women with no intellectual curiosity, compassion for others, or investment in anything but her own conspicuous consumption plans to ... finish building a damned house. The number proved precisely why this thing is closing.
Yes, it's awful across the board - and made top of the 3 worst shows of 2025.
Entertainment Weekly's "The 10 Best Broadway shows of 2025 and the 3 worst"
What a great, completely accurate list. I'm so glad The Last 5 Years was mentioned since it could have been something brilliant to bring to Broadway for the first time ever. The biggest miss of last season, but I'm happy for people who get to experience how it should be done in March.

I still consider myself a fan despite Kristin's year. But I wouldn't call that 'in great voice'. Tho she's a showman and sold it
