There are several social media posts showing some sort of reading/worship of the show for Roundabout. Yazbek, McNally, and Leigh Silverman were present.
Some actors pictured are Stark Sands, Debra Monk, and Phillip Boykin.
I AM SO HERE FOR THIS!!!

Posted: 5/9/19 at 1:39pmDoesn’t Roundabout produce readings/workshops of shows often, but it doesn’t really mean anything will come of it? They’d be stupid to not let this one make its way to broadway, but considering their track record of late they’ll probably somehow let this one slide.

They also did a reading of PARADE earlier this year with Ben Platt and Micaela Diamond.

I think the interest stems more from Terrence McNally's husband Tom Kirdehy (who's listed as the producer in the Broadway dot com article), though maybe he was co-presenting with Roundabout?

To contradict that as a reason that Full Monty wouldn't come of anything, that Parade revival is being looked at. I've heard 2nd hand accounts from Alfred Uhry that they are looking to bring it back to Broadway with Ben Platt as Leo (unfortunately *eye roll*)

Hope this happens! I loved The Producers but hated that it crushed The Full Monty in every Tony category in 2001 — weren’t they both nominated for 12 awards in the same categories? I remember what rave reviews it got. Brantley’s was splayed across the theater doors (or exterior walls) saying that the “Eugene O’Neill Theatre won't be needing a new tenant for a long time” or words to that effect. Unfortunately The Producers big-footed it out of existence all too soon.
Having just looked it up, this was the lead of his review:
“SO what do you want to know first? Do they really take off all their clothes? Yes. Can you see, you know, everything? No, at least not from where I was sitting. And -- oops, almost forgot -- is it any good? Well, put it this way: the Eugene O'Neill Theater won't have to look for a new tenant for a long, long time.”

I remember the great reviews and how Producers overshadowed it that season. I had just moved to NYC and my new college friends and I rushed for Full Monty and Jane Eyre. Very different musicals but what an experience.
I remember Full Monty received so many nominations, including Best Actor (Patrick Wilson), Best Featured Actor (John Ellison Conlee and Andre DeShields), and Featured Actress (Kathleen Freeman.) It's a musical comedy but I remember getting teary eyed when husbands (and later the wives in the reprise) sang "You Rule my World."
I hope they revive the show someday!
I know the Music Man revival has been confirmed for 2020-2021 season and it looks like a heavy favorite for best musical revival but I hope it doesn't deter other musical revivals from being produced that year.

I love this show. I saw the original cast 13 times and was lucky enough to be answering phones in a production office that spring to be invited to the Tony Awards, only to see this great show steamrolled by The Producers. It's time The Full Monty had its day! Justice!

Except I'd much prefer a full scale production of Parade over the Full Monty. (I LIKED FM, but I've never had the opportunity to see Parade.)

Posted: 5/10/19 at 5:25pmI always thought The Full Monty got a raw deal getting shutout by the Producers. Such a solid show, and didn't need all the bells and whistles The Producers had to pull stuff off.

Agree that it's a risky move without a star, but Jake G ain't gonna go near this. And he doesn't seem to like doing shows for more than 12 weeks, which isn't feasible for a big musical.

Posted: 5/11/19 at 12:30amBen Platt actually seems like a fine choice for Leo. He is a little too “loveable” for a character that is actually supposed to come off as cold and emotionally unavailable, but he could pull it off, and his name would sell tickets.

The Broadway dot com article mentioned a commercial producer. Perhaps he collaborated with Roundabout on the reading.
The whole "ticket sales don't matter at a nonprofit" argument gets made a lot, and it doesn't make any sense. It's true that there's not "recoupment" in the commercial sense, and deficits can be covered by donations, but it's still baaaad for Roundabout when a show sells as badly as Drood or Old Times or Marvin's Room.

To most producers today, I'm sure he sounds fine for any role. I don't see him as Leo at all. The character is no matinee-idol crooner.
