I'm ashamed to admit this, but a lot of the songs are really catchy. But I didn't need to sit through three hours of it to find that out. I have the CD. During the first act, I thought the show itself, the straight material, was fun. I found Act Two all but a complete bore, to the point that I thought it was just getting dumber by the minute. As much as I did find parts of it to be potentially enjoyable, though, Laura Bell Bundy ruined the whole thing for me. I'm sorry, but she was embarrassingly bad.
shouldn't really say this but for anyone who missed it or is outside the USA its available on most not so legal download sites, just downloading it now
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna
Here's the thing with the whole "omg elle is completely supported by Emmet and doesn't do anything" It's like when you're in college and you go home and your parents are like "are you studying? are you doing homework?" and then you complain about how it's too hard and they push you to keep up with it.
And when you get your degree is it only because of your parents or friends that motivated you? no it's just that sometimes you need help, if she really hadn't wanted to she wouldn't have done the work. Plus she apparently didn't really know what it felt like the feel smart...so when she finally did get something right she motivated herself.
Those girls were like killing me the whole time! The commercials bothered me alot to but I loved it all together Orfe was Spectacular and Laura was great and so was the rest of the cast. I love how you could here little things over the lines of the music that the actors were saying while dancing. I wished they showed more back-stage stuff but whatever. Great show. I didnt like So Much Better's last note with Laura - ouch! I really wanna see the ratings

I'm transferring it on DVD right now. I edited the entire show as one full performance and have each of those commercial breaks/'behind-the-scenes' spots on the Special Features section of the DVD, so it is the entire broadcast, just with things in their apropo spots.
caitlinette ~ I can't speak for the person who said that initially, but I agree that she ruined it. Pitch issues out the wazoo. Overacting. Just...all around the weakest link in the show.

Has it re-aired yet, I heard 4pm and 7pm? Which means it would be 1pm and 4pm for West Coast. And Gossip Girl is on now!

I'm watching now...so far, I'm actually very impressed with the filming. I still don't like Laura, and Tracy Edwards is no Kritzer...but Annaleigh Ashford comes off fantastic.
On the whole, I think it transferred badly onto the screen. Not in terms of how it was captured, but when I saw the show on Broadway, I thought it had its flaws but is a fun show. I don't know how well "fun" shows transfer to screen. The fun in it is being there, having the dancers right in front of you, just being in the environment with catchy songs and general upbeatness all around. That just can't be captured on the screen, and all that's left is the show itself, which is certainly not the greatest thing.
I think the less fun, more...high quality shows transfer better to screen. And I know this is obvious, and that, MTV wasn't gonna show a serious show, just saying in general.
"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli
Maybe it was only re-airing in the East Coast...I remember reading Sunday at 4pm and 7pm..I DVRed it but did not see it on again!

as far as I know, Laura Bell has only missed a few shows. ive heard she's has a pretty good attendance record, giving shes in the show the whole time except for about 5 minutes? i dont know, she said in an interview she counted one time and said it was about 5 minutes or so.
anyways, i must say i was very impressed with "What You Want", i turned on the tv just to watch that. i really hate that scene with the 3 admissions directors mid-song, they overact it so much, its ridiculous. but i love the rest of the song- especially the choegraphy and the drum parts. yea, i personally think its the best song in the show. Laura Bell is fantastic in it. and my favorite line in the show is definitely "Must we all descend into madness?", haha, i wish more people laughed at that, i found it hilarious. and then what does she say, like 'snap it off' or something?
yea, im going to turn the tv back on when "So Much Better" is about to happen.
