Any truth to the rumors that Titanic is headed back to Broadway?There's currently a production happening in Korea from the people who did the recent production at Signature in DC. My sources tell me Broadway producers are attached and looking to bring it in this coming Summer. The video of the Korean production looks incredible

This set design is incredible! Personally, I love it! 

Wasn't there was talk about bring the Southwark Playhouse production to Broadway? It played London and Toronto (where I saw it), and was announced for the Ahmanson. Only to be cancelled, and Grey Gardens subbed in.

Very stunning!  I saw the original, it was plagued by numerous set problems but still incredibly moving.

Vivian Beaumont, Lyceum, Jacobs could all work really well. I personally don't think the scope and grand opulence of this show suits Circle at all.

This is another instance which in my humble opinion no matter how the show is re-envisioned, it will never surpass the original; which I saw at a preview 4/4/97 with material that was later excised.

2-3 years ago the rumor was that the Southerland production was going to be revived on Broadway after an American tour, but it didn't sell too well in Toronto (although it was a beautiful show and performance) and the only American stop was cancelled. The Southerland version is currently on tour in the UK I think--or it was a few months ago, anyway.

It'd be neat to see a limited engagement with this particular staging.

Does anyone know if the Signature Theatre version that the Korean company is doing makes any changes to the script or lyrics? The Southerland production did something interesting with Bruce Ismay that I sorely missed  while seeing a production of the standard licensed version this summer.

Those clips gave me chills.  I believe the Korean production was directed by Signature's Eric Schaeffer.  Titanic was certainly one of the best productions I have ever seen at Signature Theatre.

Personally, it's one of my favorite shows. I'd love to see it happen, but I do think it's a tough sell regardless. Gorgeous music, gorgeous story, but ultimately depressing.

WOW.  That looks fantastic.  One of Broadway's greatest scores.  I truly loved the original Broadway production and the ensemble delivered some of the best choral work I've ever heard in a musical (probably tied with Marie Christine).

Circle isn't nearly tall enough for that design.

Personally, it's one of my favorite shows. I'd love to see it happen, but I do think it's a tough sell regardless. 

I don't know about that.  I think there will always be interest and fascination in the subject.  I think one of the things that probably hurt the original the most is that the blockbuster film came along less than a year after the musical opened.  The biggest obstacle would seem to be the expectation of spectacle based on the title alone.  A revival of this staging would need Hamilton's publicity machine to get it going.

That clip was absolutely gorgeous, the set design is incredible! Titanic has always had such a beautiful score, but if they managed to reimagine it this way, I’d be there on opening night.

Hearing lots of rumors that this will be coming in as soon as they get a theatre. I saw it at Signature, and it was stunning. For what I’ve heard, the production in Korea was a chance for Eric Schaeffer and his team to reimagine it in a proscenium setting.

A few years ago, I recall a dinner theater in New York (Elmsford) billed their production of Titanic as "pre-Broadway".  It was a bit of a mess in that, though the cast was excellent for the most part) the PRINCIPAL players doubled for each other and it got confusing.  As I recall for example the actor who sings Doing the Ragtime number (Hartley maybe) then became the radio operator in the next scene to sing, The night was alive.  And Barrett (and all the other principals) doubled as  the millionaires. All the millionaires wives were played by the same actress (who I think was also one of the Kates). It kinda seemed muddled. A song or two were cut such as wake up wake up, as was the wonderful book scene with all the millionaires on the deck of the ship thinking about their lives as the lifeboat go away.  I wanted to like the production, but found myself thinking.......huh?  I was fortunate to see both the Broadway and German production (which was fantastic and BIG). I loved the original. The set shown in the videos is cool, but I guess having a fuller cast would make it really soar.  If this production found it's way to Broadway maybe they could keep the same set (just make is bigger) and actually have all the millionaires played by separate actors instead of doubling so much.  They also put back in a song that was cut for B'way between Charles and the character he is with).  DIdn't like it.  When they put the new song in the German production, 3 days, it was a catchy song, but I didn't like the actors playing Kate and Jim so it didn't have the emotional kick it could have.

No I did not but it looks beautiful...just not a fan of the show in general and the score. I saw the original Broadway production when I was in college and found it agonizing to sit through.

Saw the production in it's incarnation at Signature in DC.....and it was stunning.  I never saw the original Broadway production so I can't really tell how it compares.  But the stripped down intimate setting, which was largely in the round worked beautifully.  I'd read that they adapted it for a more traditional proscenium stage in Korea.  It would be awesome to see if come to one of the smaller Broadway houses and keep the smaller scale; rather than trying to recreate the sinking ship from the original Broadway run.

I ask the following question genuinely: can someone explain to me the love for this show? I saw Titanic at Signature in D.C. last year, and while I thought the production was glorious (as Signature's shows always are), I thought the show itself was interminable and boring. It took the entire first act to get to the main event we knew was coming, and I felt no reason to care emotionally for any of the characters until then. The score, while lush, sometimes felt slow and sluggish.

Maybe it's because I saw the show for the first time in a post-Hamilton world, but I thought it was a very slow affair that didn't make the history of the event compelling at all. Surprised to see I'm in the minority.
