I have ticket for next week on todaytix, have not received any info from them. Might have to try and catch this on Saturday if I can't find a way to see Kimberly Akimbo
I know nothing but if there is any truth to the rumor of a transfer to a smaller house, it is possible they are in the process of working out the details and TC jumped the gun with the email cancelling performances. Emphasizing that I don't know, but agreeing that would def be a PR faux pas.

according to an usher, that's exactly how the Doubtfire FOH staff found out (well, IG, but still)

They’ve likely been accruing for a move for some time now. It’s been rumored off and on even before prepandemic when the show was growing more than $1mil/week.

Has anyone on these boards actually seen Kinnear in the role? Is he good?

It had already recouped its entire investment before the pandemic hit."
You know it costs money to move a show, right? This is a much smaller house and stage, so modifications will likely need to be made, adding to those costs. It has nothing to do with the show's initial recoupment. It's not selling, what makes them think it will sell better at the less visible Belasco,

They're hoping it will sell to the tourists who return to our fair city in June
This move obviously came together very quickly. Would love to know what went on behind the scenes –– if it was the Shuberts pushing them to leave, or a sudden realization that winter was going to be deadly, or some combo of the two.

The perils of star casting is that it becomes hard to replace a star. Major actors generally don't like to follow in the footsteps of someone who has had as much acclaim as Daniels...and when they do, sales often dwindle quickly. There's also a finite audience for plays in NYC, even one with this title. And as I said before in this thread, if people already paid full price to see Daniels and/or Harris, why bother seeing it again unless it's someone major who they LOVE. (such as Tom Hanks)
Gregg Kinnear and Ed Harris obviously aren't first-choice names. Sorkin and Rudin have a rolodex of men who likely passed on this before they settled on Harris and Kinnear (and Rafe Spall in London, and Richard Thomas on tour).
