This is kind of a weird question but do any boys here have any tote bags from shows and use them? I want to buy the WSS tote bag to carry around the city but I don't know if that looks weird or something.

who cares? wear what you wanna wear. if i saw someone with a WSS tote i'd think they were the shiz. i wear show shirts and hoodies it's basically the same. i actually really like the WSS tote bags too. go for it man.

i hate that it's ok for gay guys to have tote bags. i mean i don't really care, i'd get one and use it all the time but my friends would but like HAHAH YOU GAY WITH FUNNY LOOK BAG. plus, i feel more comfortable with my bookbag. i think they should make a hair bookbag...just for me.

I hate that because you have a tote bag, you "look gay." It's sad but true. Obviously there's nothing wrong with being gay but why does a certain bag make a person "look gay"? And what does that even mean...?
Remember when you "looked gay" if you used a messenger bag? Now I see clearly straight guys with them all the time. Maybe tote bags are next. Updated On: 7/7/09 at 12:25 AM
I use a messenger bag when I am in the city, but I'm gay, but I still get dirty looks because people always seem to think it is strange that I'm a boy alone in the city since I look young.

Yay_gerb, do you mean that you hate that it isn't (conventionally) okay for straight guys to have tote bags? Or that the fact that girls and gay guys can use tote bags, so that's what shows make, even though often straight guys can't/won't?
Sorry, I don't mean to get touchy, but saying you hate that it's okay for a certain group to do something (like... carry a bag) doesn't seem especially enlightened.

They have murses or merses ( I looked it up in the dictionary but it wasn't in there) for men, so I guess you can have one and not look stupid. I see some guys with totes to put there text books in. Updated On: 7/7/09 at 12:29 AM
no i mean i'm jealous that i can't wear them! i'm a pretty fashionable straight guy and i think they look good with guys as well as girls, but i get bashed.
rocks when messenger bags were considered gay i wore one and all my friends were like HAHA now they're all wearing one. it's quite funny.

Part of me says: If you want one and want to use it: who the hell cares what a bunch of strangers think?
However: I have a lot of b'way b'ball hats....but I never wear them in the city. For some reason, I feel goofy about wearing them there, can't explain it. Granted, I don't wear ANY b'ball hats while I'm in NY, so maybe it has nothing to do with "touristy" look of it.
I know LOTS of guys that (straight and gay) that use those drawstring bags....why is a tote any different, really?
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I have a [title of show] messenger bag that I take with me every time I go into the city, and I love it. I can't fit everything into my pockets, so it's great to have the bag to carry everything.
I say you should get the WSS tote if you want it. It doesn't really matter what others think. As long as you like the bag and it serves it's purpose, go for it!
yay_gerb, it is sounding like your issue transcends a tote bag. It sounds like you have some internalized homophobia. Most people use tote bags as needed and if they are practical. I mean, I have seen an old lady with a tote from HOOTERS. When I politely mentioned this she was like, "hell, it's a good bag."
If you are so overly concerned with how you are perceived that you worry about what people will think of you based on a bag, maybe you have self-esteem or identity concerns.
Personally, I go everywhere with my Grey Gardens tote...you understand?

no betty. like i said i like wearing my backpack more. it's just easier to carry. i just feel like it's stupid that a guy with a tote bag gets looked at funny.

I love my Broadway Cares tote. It's big and sturdy enough to hold all my textbooks while I lug them around all day. I also have a Xanadu tote my friend had made for me for my birthday that I use for smaller jobs.
In my opinion, those flimsy little backpacks fall apart really easily.
