I think you may be.They just needed everyone in for opening night, expect a ton of understudies from now on."
This is going to be the norm I fear. As the reviews have clearly pointed out, the show is the star. I’m sure the lack of raves or acknowledgement for the leads won’t propel them to show up more.

Not getting reviews or star making reviews means no incentive to show up? Seriously? It is a different world for sure!

I hope folks will continue to update on who is in or not. I find it extremely disappointing that the producers would tolerate those kind of shenanigans. Was excited to see the show but if the leads can’t be bothered to attend, why should I?

I agree. The absences were not tolerated during the 2008 revival, which included an infamous backstage scolding from Laurents himself.
More unprofessional behavior on Broadway. Frustrating.
Issac is a different story--he's injured. And if the show is genuinely that grueling in its one-act form, I understand having an A/B cast, as long as audiences are made aware which cast they are buying tickets to see.

But if it's just diva nonsense, it's insulting."
I agree. If Isaac isn’t going to be performing at matinees the production really should issue a statement saying so even if it’s only for a short duration.
Hopefully it was just a fluke due to the opening night partying and shenanigans. I can imagine that getting wet every night and then partying it up would result in some sick people.
If it does turn into a regular thing they need to create an alternate schedule like Dear Evan Hansen or Phantom.
Also how does Elphaba not have an official alternate?

So one actor was replaced due to an injury, but Isaac wasn't?
Was he solely brought back to open the show and then miss every other show? If he's not fully healed, he needs time off to heal. Knee injuries suck. He's too young to shred his knee with this piecemeal recovery. He posts his rehab online. I hope he isn't doing further damage.

As disappointed as I was to miss Isaac yet again, I'm happy to report that Jordan Dobson, Mia Pinero, and Ricky Ubeda are all terrific. Don't let the fear of understudies keep you from seeing this amazing production!
Dobson has grown in the role considerably in the six weeks since I first saw him. He's beautifully vulnerable and heartbreaking. (Does he remind anyone else of John Legend?) Pinero makes a very tough, independent, intelligent and vibrant Maria. Those who predicted that character would disappear without "I Feel Pretty" were simply wrong. (Ah, the danger of weighing in on a show before seeing it.) Ubeda may not be the tallest Bernardo you've ever seen, but he's hot and the fact that he's actually shorter than everyone else he encounters actually makes Bernardo seem more fearless and resentful.
I’d just like to point out that the theory that actors are missing performances because they’re upset about reviews, or anything of the sort, was started right here on this thread and has non basis in reality.

You are correct, of course. Also, on the injury/recovery backseat driving, the young man has a very fine doctor, a very fine physical therapist, and a very fine union, and a very fine agent. If he was shredding his knee, he would not be performing. Did it ever occur to anyone that the time off may be because he needs the time for PT and that the best course is a combination of performance and therapy? No, of course it didn't. The naiveté on this board knows no bounds.
