I have a question for everyone including Anthony... since you guys were talking about The Giver (such a great book) another book along those lines which also was great was I am The Cheese. Has anyone read this?
Hi Anthony...long time listener...first time caller!
I know that there are several bootlegs of the OBC of RENT. I have been hoping for a long time that quality footage of the entire show would be released. I am ecstatic that the movie is happening, but feel like I really missed out by never seeing the OBC perform the original script.
Do you know of any video footage of the original OBC that could be put together for a release?
o0o0o video footage would be awesome. oh-hi! *waves* i've been reading this thing forEVER.. well, since it started, and i've been dying to set my own account so i could post as well! quick thanks to anthony for taking time out of his incredibly busy schedule to keep everyone posted. thanks!
*can i just preface this post with the fact that i had a typo and said that i thought i was a great show, when i actually meant that it (little shop of horrors) was a great show* i just needed to get that out before i started this. I just wanted to ask you Anthony, what keeps you alive? Like what makes you come back to performing and how have you not gone crazy? Just curious because i know how hard it is to stay alive in this business even w/ your talent and credits....thanks for listenting, or reading i guess!
In regards to the book question, I shamelessly promote "Just A Geek" by Wil Wheaton...yesh, Wil Wheaton...yesh, Wesley Crusher...don't insult him...I poke with sharp pointies. I'm sooooooooooooooooooo off track. Anyway, Anthony...first off, HEY! I think you're great and amazing and god are you sexy! *ends fangirl squeeing to ask questions*
1. What was your inspiration to write and record "Just Some Guy", a song that was obviously going to raise some eyebrows? Personally, I'm so proud of you for not hiding behind vague "you"'s and it's really a beautiful song. =8-> *hopes you don't realize this is a Mark smiley...realizes she just told you* Oh well, feel free to love or laugh at the geekiness, *bows*.
2. I'm going to play Mark in a production of RENT with my friends. (despite the fact I'm a girl...who doesn't need glasses...but at least I like scarfs) I need help with the character. I just don't get him. I love his songs and "La Vie Boheme" is my favorite song to sing, but character-wise...he's confusing. Can you help? I really would be so grateful.
Okies, that's all, I'll see you someday (look for me on Broadway).

1. Ted Allen: Everyone has an interesting life if you ask the right questions.
2. Great buckets of Spoffnor, they're going to sing!
3. "I love shrubs that are historical." -Johnny and The Sprites
4. "We're not singing it to you, we're singing it for us." -Rosario Dawson, about La Vie Boheme
5. "The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours." -The History Boys
6. "Pass the parcel. That's sometimes all you can do. Take it, feel it and pass it on. Not for me, not for you, but for someone, somewhere, one day. Pass it on, boys. That's the game I want you to learn. Pass it on." -The History Boys
Hmmm no never read The Cheese but if its along the lines of the Giver then I'll add it to my list of books to read. I've just finished Catcher in the Rye and am still in awe.
And yes, any video footage of the OBC performing the show in 1996 would be much appreciated. I was too young to see it when it was actually showing and as great as the cast recording is, one does wish that they could SEE what was going on as well as hear it. That and I hear that alot of the instrumentals were softened for the recording. One of the reasons I was so glad to hear about the RENT movie with most of the OBC.

Incendiary Wit--- Love the Mark smiley, I use it too, isn't it awesome, lol! Yay for complete nerds! ^-^ And yes, the original cast video footage would be the COOLEST!!! =8-D
"Kali, why is Roger on a cliff?"
"Because the cliff is love, Rachel."
"Oh."
I read a rumor on imdb.com(I know not the best source of information, but I was just surfing) and someone said that some kind broadway cast video or something was coming out next december. It was just something I had read.
Nice smiley. :)

Hey guys, i just signed up, and Hi Anthony! I cant believe this, it's extrodinary. I'm from Australia by the way, do you have any idea when Rent will be coming back for a tour over here? Last time they did a tour here i was too young! Loving rent! Thanks guys, Emma
I was always under the impression that no one had officially (or legally for that matter) filmed the OBC while they were in performance. And hey, don't get me wrong I live off the bootlegs as much as the next person (am still immersed in LSoH soundclips) but the problem is that they are pretty horrible quality from being copied so many times. It's a rumor I'd hope is true though....
It may be far too early to say or even know but Anthony, do you have any idea what we can expect on the DVD for RENT whenever it comes out? I, for one, am hoping for alot of behind the scenes stuff (tech geek) but I was just wondering if you knew anything about that. Thanks!

Hi Anthony, Rent has moved me in so many ways, the music is incredible, i have never had the chance to see the show myself , because I am in Australia, but I was just wondering if you were looking forward to working on the movie, and if you think it will live up to the standards everyone is talking about. Thankyou! Emma xox

Hey, Anthony. I'm getting tickets to Little Shop of Horrors in Cincinnati and I was wondering if you would still be touring with the show. I heard some rumors that you would be shooting Rent, so you wouldn't be able to be in Little Shop. I'm really hoping to be able to see you perform. Thanks.

i feel so important!! yay!! we should send anthony pics!! although he'd probably rip them up and throw them away....it's the thought that counts right?? he thought about keeping them...but he didn't...lol ric
incendiary_wit, I am a huge mark geek!! I believe in Mark/Roger fanfictions, so if you want to play mark like that, feel free to PM me. P.S. I so want to play Mark!!! (even though I'm a girl too and don't know more than 1 friend who likes rent.) P.S.S. broadwaybelter, we should send pics!!!

it's no problem that you wanna play Mark. A couple of my friends and I sang La Vie Boheme to our parents and i played Mark even though i'm a girl (i was the only one who memorized his solo anyway).
Anthony, i'm just wondering, i'm not sure if this has been asked before but what's your favorite holiday? Mine is Halloween for three reasons. 1. I can eat all the candy i want for free 2. I can run around wearing a creepy costume 3. I Love the song Halloween from Rent Hope you answer back Thanx
all shows are videotaped. where do you think they get footage for tv broadcasts, for instance, that seasons of love clip that they show every time rent comes up?
i don't think we should really be talking about bootlegs...
Hi Anthony, I just finished reading all your posts ... love how insightful your answers are! Anyway, I love you in "Rent" and I also managed to catch your performance of "Everybody Hurts" by REM at last years Bway kitchen sink which was also enjoyable ... my question for you is:
What is your favorite quote? It can be anything ... I just love adding more quotes to my collection, so if you got a good one ...
"Less Of A Marilyn, More Of A Jackie"

Yeah although gender may well stop you from ever playing Mark in the actual show on Broadway :-P, it's still fun to sing the guy's parts from the show. My friend and I did What You Own for fun once even though we are both girls and it was a blast. Such a fun song to sing.
Anyways, I'm doing a mixed media piece that is focusing on RENT and its characters and I was wondering Anthony, what quote would you say best represents Mark from the show? I ask because the piece includes a kind of collage of the characters and I want to overlap quotes that best represent them and their philosophies/personalities etc. I basically want to bring the essence of RENT and its characters and philosophies onto a one canvas. It's something I've wanted to do for a while and I finally found some spare time to actually work on it. You're (and anyone else's) imput would be much appreciated. Thanks! -Mika
