Here is the Richard Ridge BWW interview with Wendy Williams. She seems like a nice person and generally eager to please. Wendy Williams video
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)
"It takes only a few seconds to scan through these posts and see who has posted.. so your point?"
is mind your own business.
Anyway, re Darlene Love. She can still outsing anyone we've mentioned. If you're a little young to be familiar with her, go see the film 20 feet from stardom. It's wonderful!
I just had a thought: Mary Wilson? (formerly of the Supremes)

I dont' think Miss Ross would be a good choice. Her voice is too thin.

Darlene's vocals are really powerful and she has plenty energy. She nailed I Know Where I've Been at the Bowl in Hairspray- took me right back to when she played Motormouth on Broadway.
There are many reasons I lie about my age (27, but looks/reads younger) in the real world. Miscreants like the obviously under-25 posters on this board...make up about 5 of those reasons.
Back on topic, I love Wendy. She'll improve and she seems like she's really enjoying herself.
The Broadway community is a COMMUNITY, NOT a clique. It's not your high school haven to prove you're better than the people who made you feel less than what you are. Get it together, kids.
I don't WANT to live in what they call "a certain way." In the first place I'd be no good at it and besides that I don't want to be identified with any one class of people. I want to live every whichway, among all kinds---and know them---and understand them---and love them---THAT's what I want! - Philip Barry (Holiday)
Darlene's been singing since the '60's, when she was part of a girl group called the Blossoms. She also sang background for dozens of pop artists of the time. Phil Spector discovered her strong voice and used her in much of his wall of sound projects. She also sang with the Crystals, another girl group of the 60's.
Darlene Love is also an Inductee in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Don't forget that from her résumé, it took her a long and winding road to get in!
Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.
Just let lovebwy get his precious little last word already. He's clearly never going to stop expressing the same thought over and over until he gets the very last word on the subject, because he's made it clear that his opinion is not just opinion---it is absolute fact that cannot be disputed.
Or we could call him/her a whambulance and call it a day.

Can we just start a Darlene Love Appreciation Thread already? The woman can SING circles around just about anyone on Broadway right now.. at a very young looking 71 (black don't crack!). I bought tickets to her very last show in HAIRSPRAY and it was worth every penny and then some. She (as expected) blew the roof off the Neil Simon with her final rendition of "I Know Where I've Been" (complete with a soul-filled "GOODBYE EVERY-BODY" right before the last note). Gives me chills just thinking about it. The woman is a true gift.
